Basic Function
As the Manager, Environmental Issues, you will play a pivotal role in leading and inspiring exceptional Environmental performance that improves business value and enables a sustainable future at LYB. This is a global role that will help drive the development, implementation, and use of our environmental programs and projects including Operational Excellence environmental management systems, ISO 14001 program, compliance programs, and environmental governance processes to drive Environmental Excellence at LYB. You will be called upon to represent the company on environmental issues with trade associations, regulatory authorities, and other companies. You will lead and/or influence environmental, regulatory and sustainability governance efforts, data collection, recordkeeping and reporting requirements to drive business performance. You will provide guidance to projects, business functions, manufacturing and business units on critical environmental issues. Provide alerts and interpretations of environmental issues as necessary. Help drive the quality performance data, insights and continuous improvement produced by Environmental Excellence metrics and key initiatives. Provide strategic support, guidance and analysis for mergers, acquisitions and divestiture activities as needed. By leveraging environmental risk/opportunity management knowledge and experience, data, analysis and insights, you will drive collaboration across key stakeholders to develop and deploy actions that improve business results and capture value.
You will champion programs that help drive positive results in metrics such as compliance, enforcement, air emissions, water consumption, water use & discharge management, and waste management to support operations and our sustainability reporting initiatives. The Manager, Environmental Issues is a critical environmental point of contact for assigned key business functions, projects, operations leaders and sites across the global enterprise.
Roles & Responsibilities
Provide support to manufacturing sites and business teams as appropriate worldwideExecute and influence programs that maintain and improve industry leading environmental performance at manufacturing sites worldwide and continuous improvement in LYB's environmental systemsSupport environmental business planning, environmental consulting and services vendor selection, budget discipline and optimizationDrive fit-for-risk processes, systems and tools that drive quality, efficiency and capture business valueStrategically engage with technical consultants as part of service delivery within an integrated teamLead environmental professionals and/or an environmental specialtySupport and mentor our global network of environmental professionals deployed around the globeEnsure that key business decisions are efficiently and timely informed by environmental issues including monitoring environmental legislative & regulatory developments; communicating effectively to affected elements of the organizationLeverage KPIs and continuous improvement processes to drive business improvementWork closely with the manufacturing organization to implement effective programs for operations support and performance improvementProvide consultation and strategic support for managing environmental liabilities associated with mergers and acquisitions, as neededIdentify material environmental issues and develop strategies for managing those issues with the objective of managing compliance, risks, and creating a competitive advantage for the companyInfluence and implement global work practices related to Operational Excellence (OE)Drive the environmental aspects, risks, mitigations, process design, approvals and compliance strategies related to Major capital projectsParticipate and, in some cases, lead relevant Trade Association activities as a company representativeProvide forums, as necessary, to facilitate the sharing of environmental and HSE best practices across the organizationMin. Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field. Master's degree, certification or licensure in environmental engineering is a plus.Typically, 15+ years of experience in environmental engineering, with a focus on environmental management, approvals management, compliance management, environmental and social impact assessment and management, environmental performance, sustainability reporting, environmental business planning, ESG disclosures, and/or related fields.Direct experience in chemicals manufacturing or mid/down-stream Oil and Gas a plus.Multiple language proficiency is a plus.Value driven behaviors that demonstrate our belief that diversity, equity and inclusion make us stronger.Ability to work in a global capacity, supporting activities across the business lifecycle, implementing projects and programs with teams across multiple time zones.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.Proven track record of driving continuous improvement and delivering results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Excellent project management skills and proven track record, with the ability to build cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.Passion for sustainability as a business strategy and the ability to challenge and deliver a strong value proposition/capture.Engagement with stakeholders across the value chain will require strong communication and persuasion skills including the ability to influence others without direct authority.Experience leading Environmental governance, performance monitoring and reporting, including external disclosures is a plus.Preferred Qualifications
Preferred experience managing cross functional/site stakeholders in a matrix organization, and the ability to integrate site, portfolio and enterprise perspectives as part of a global team.Proficiency in data analysis tools and software, such as excel, SQL, PowerSuite, ESRI, and/or data visualization platforms preferred.
