Position Description
Metro Nashville Public Health (MPHD) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Public Health Nurse to lead our Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination Program as a Supervising Public Health Nurse 3. This position is a first-line supervisor responsible for planning, scheduling, organizing and supervising nursing and support staff in the TB/Communicable Disease unit. The ideal candidate will have experience and/or knowledge of effective supervisory and training skills, experience in public health field work, and knowledge of tuberculosis disease transmission, control, and investigation in a community health program.
The TB Elimination Program works with community agencies, providers, and hospitals to identify persons who have active TB disease. Diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up services are provided to all persons in Davidson County who are diagnosed with active TB disease. Contact investigations are conducted in partnership with patients to identify, evaluate, and treat individuals who have been exposed to active TB. Directly observed therapy is provided to all persons with TB disease, children, and some high-risk contacts.
Typical Duties
Directly supervises interdisciplinary staff including, but not limited to, Nurse Case Managers, Communicable Disease Investigators, Outreach Workers, and clinic staff.
Monitors daily functions of TB case management services including nursing case management, directly observed therapy, and social work services.
Coordinates quality assurance activities.
Assists with direct patient care as needed.
Provides leadership and oversight for day-to-day services.
Monitors, conducts, and evaluates. patient care for appropriate diagnostic tests including bacteriological studies, drug toxicity monitoring, related blood tests, and staff follow-up.
Oversees staff efforts to enforce patient compliance with TB therapy.
Assists in recruiting, hiring, training and evaluation of clinic staff.
Serves as a liaison between MPHD, the community, and providers.
Collaborates with Program Director to develop, revise, and maintain appropriate clinical policies and procedures.
Prepares and presents reports for program related matters.
Serves as a member of the TB management team, collaborating in the development of a comprehensive approach to TB elimination.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a state-approved school of nursing
Two (2) years of nursing experience
Requires flexible working hours and use of own transportation on the job.
Valid class “D” driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
All public health nurses are required to complete a department approved Certificate in Public Health as a condition of continued employment. Possess required competencies upon hiring.
