SUMMARY:
Performs patient evaluations and re-evaluations, establishes patient treatment plan based upon the referral from the physician/referral source. Documents the patients’ care and directs supportive staff regarding treatment process. Provides leadership to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants, Students, Rehab Aides and Volunteers.
These duties are performed in a manner that demonstrates the philosophy/mission and values of Mercy Health.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Reviews physician referral, patient’s condition and medical history to determine occupational therapy treatment needs.
Performs and documents patient evaluation, re-evaluation and develops treatment and discharge plans.
Plans and administers medically prescribed occupational therapy treatments to patients.
Designs and constructs special equipment for adaptation of individual’s work and living environment.
Plans programs involving activities, practice in functional, pre-vocational, vocational, homemaking skills, activities of daily living and sensory motor activities.
Modifies treatment goals and plan of care as appropriate. Involved with patient care conferences as appropriate.
Instructs patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
Responsible for overall management of patient cases including communication and coordination of care with treatment team.
Precepts in the direction and evaluation of clinical experience / internship of students from participating colleges or universities.
Orients, instructs and directs the work activities of assistants, aides, students and volunteers.
Stays abreast of current developments and new technology in occupational therapy.
Demonstrates behaviors consistent with Mission and Core Values. Adheres to standards and policies, laws and regulations. Demonstrates the ABC’s of Mercy Health Culture. Holds self and others accountable.
Employment Qualifications
Required Minimum Education: 4 year/ Bachelors Degree in Occupational Therapy
Licensure/Certification Required: Licensed in State of Ohio PT/OT/AT Board
Licensure/Certification Preferred: CPR Certification
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required: Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with co-workers, physicians, patients and families. Analytical abilities to evaluate patient condition, capabilities and progress. Complies with all applicable laws and regulations and practices.
