Job Summary
Analysts gather and interpret data to help companies improve performance and achieve goals. They work in a variety of industries, including business, research, and security, and may use data from public and private sources. Analysts evaluate company and client needs, and review information to identify trends and areas for improvement. They gather company information and statistics, and may use statistical methods to collect data across business sectors. Analysts look for patterns in the data and use it to make decisions and changes. They may also create charts and graphs to present results to executives. They use their findings to create plans to improve processes and streamline operations. They may also work with management teams to implement changes. An important function of the Analyst role is to create and deliver reports that are easy to interpret and actionable.
Analysts should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and be proficient in data analysis tools and techniques. They should also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work well independently or collaboratively.
A Principal 1 Analyst is a recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. The role leverages these insights along with research to synthesize complex ideas and insights into persuasive and actionable evidence based recommendations that support improved workforce and outcomes. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.
The Principal 1 Analyst - IT Finance will transform raw data into actionable insight, driving transparency and accountability within IT Finance and in collaboration with Coporate Finance. Using advanced data language processers and tools, the Analyst will gather, extract, process, transform and visualize IT financial and related data to develop metrics, trends and anomalies. The Analyst will perform benchmarking of costs and participate in external benchmarking efforts that will lead continuous improvement efforts and drive cost savings initiatives. They will serve as a liaison between IT managers/leaders and Corporate Finance to ensure data completeness and accuracy.
Job Responsibilities
Subject Matter Expertise: Leverage insights and research to synthesize complex ideas into actionable, evidence-based recommendations.
Collect, research and analyze data and reports on IT budgets, including but not limited to O&M forecast, vendor spend and overall capital plans. Use external resources and build working relationships across the industry to gather data and information timely and accurately. Prepare presentations and reports for senior leadership identifying trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement. Present on insight and provide input on the material collected for continuous improvement. Develop regular financial reports and dashboards for use by all employees, highlighting key financial results and trends by department and leader.
Policy Influence: Influence others regarding policies, practices, and procedures.
Maintain and continuously improve IT's financial processes and materials for maximum benefit, including automation where appropriate and creating informative visualizations that intuitively display large acmouts of data to tell a story. Become a leader as well as resource within IT that teams can leverage for information and continuous improvement.
Leadership and Mentorship: Provide leadership and mentorship to junior analysts, guiding their development and aligning their work with organizational goals.
Operate Independently: Self motivated and ocan operate independently, applying advanced knowledge to practice.
Job Specific Qualifications
Required
Bachelors’ degree in Business, Finance, Management or other analytical field
A minimum of 8 years experience in analytical, quantitative and qualitative analysis
Hands-on experience with MS products and data visualization tools (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI)
Advanced experience in data mining, query and report design with the ability to create a product that can be shared with many types of audiences
Experience with predictive analytics tools and techniques, including Power BI and Server Management
Ability to develop new approaches with applicable tools to measure success
Detail oriented, driven and able to effectively work independently
Work well with limited supervision while being responsible for project management, compliance assurance and risk mitigation
Ability to work effectively across department boundaries and maintain positive relationships with cross functional partners
Experience collaborating with and providing thought leadership to executive leadership teams
Experience prioritizing and managing multiple and technically complex assignments concurrently
Maintain flexibility and readily adapt to dynamic priorities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Comfortable with public speaking and giving presentations to a variety of audiences and facilitating process improvement teams
