The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose, and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.

OPS Senior Community Health Nurse:

This is a rewarding job if you enjoy working with the community and helping others. You will have the opportunity to conduct health assessments and educate patients who have recently arrived in the country.

The OPS Senior Community Health Nurse operates within the immediate guidance of the overseeing nursing supervisor in the Refugee Clinic. Working independently and adhering to all established state and local protocols written/approved by the Florida Department of Health. The incumbent must possess a valid Registered Nurse license issued by the State of Florida or multi-state license from another Compact State.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Advocates for and sustains the well-being of individuals, families, and the community using suitable preventative and rehabilitative actions. Provides comprehensive nursing in FDOH-Hillsborough Refugee Health and in the community settings as warranted. These services include childhood and adult vaccine administration, STD counseling/testing/treatment, TB screening, case management referrals and follow-up of the referrals, timely and thorough documentation, and collection of laboratory specimen.

Interviews, counsels, demonstrates, and teaches health principles. Maintains comprehensive quality records, collects, and reports relevant data to advanced practice registered nurses and physicians; provides appropriate case follow-up; participates in case management meetings; formulates and evaluates care plans, assists in record reviews; serves as staff advisor to student affiliates and new staff nurses; participates and assists with communicable disease control within the county. Assists with health fairs, community organizations, and specific public health events as requested. Participates in continuing education, in services, and staff meetings.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Skill vaccinating adults and children.

Applies nursing principles and techniques in the care, treatment, and assessment of clients.

Assumes responsibility for initiating care, delivering treatment to patients, and accurately documenting patient care in the EHR in timely manner.

Able to maintain/manage case records with time constraints.

Able to proactively initiate care for clients in need of health services.

Able to bend, kneel, carry, lift, push or pull more than 15 pounds for community outreach events or other per program needs.

Qualifications:

Minimum –

Active Florida Registered Nurse license or a multistate license from another Compact State.

Preferred –

Case Management experience

6 months clinical nursing experience

Bilingual English/Spanish
