On any given shift there are typically 3-4 active labor patients and 10-12 total (including post-partum patients). This is, of course an average - varies day to day. Also important to know, the MD will have a mid-level on with them (a PA with OB experience, or (hopefully) a midwife. This person takes care of the vast majority of the " busy work" such as rounding on post-partum, discharging patients, etc.Credentials: Active Massachusetts medical license. MA DEA and CSR.
