Summary:

The supervisor will be responsible for managing a team of in-office desk adjusters, driving results, training and leading team members to embrace new technologies and methods and processes of adjusting claims, while reducing loss adjustment expenses and containing loss severity.

The supervisor directly reports to a claim manager and is an integral member of the claim leadership team. The claims supervisor is responsible for the analysis and management of claim files within their unit. Supervision includes claim assignments, coverage analysis, establishment of, and adherence to action plans in claim files, training including Xactimate training, reserve accuracy, effective negotiation, litigation oversight, and appropriate resolution. The claims supervisor is charged with managing pending claims, improving file quality, and managing expenses, while making full utilization of all productive resources and capacity at their disposal.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Duties for this position include:

Effectively lead the Quick Response (QR) claim handling model across the unit. Operate as a department resource for knowledge transfer and implementation of the QR program across the property claim department.Oversight of claim handling from beginning to resolution of up to ten employees.

Approving claim action plans in accordance with best practices leading to the best business outcome.Promptly assist with coverage issues through the investigation process.Protect the company's coverage defenses by ensuring appropriate reservation of rights, or disclaimer position letters are supported by salient facts and in conformance with insurance regulations and market requirements.

Act swiftly and affirmatively, execute timely appropriate action, when needed, to resolve Stillwater's business challenges.Ensure enterprise financial accountability through timely and adequate claim and expense reserving practices:

Drive results in efficient claims handling with minimal loss expenses.Work closely with staff to establish appropriate reserves and resolve claims in a proactive manner.

Ensure timely and complete investigations on transferred, shared, and claims handled from the ground up:

Responsible for staff completing detailed investigations, at appropriate levels for the individual claims, for the questions, issues, documents, experts needed, and tasks involved to accomplish or facilitate a prompt investigation among direct reports.Train and monitor use and efficiency of team's scoping and collaborative applications when appropriate.Provide written instructions and supervision when appropriate.Ensure claim files contain sufficient documentation to justify all coverage, liability, damage and claim resolution decisions.Collaborate closely with SIU unit and its investigators when NICB indicators are present.Review for pursuit of all subrogation and salvage recovery opportunities.Perform CAT duty in-field either direct adjusting or management of a team of staff and contractors as needed. CAT duty may last periods of up to three weeks away from the home. CAT duty may be necessary two-to-three times per year. A daily bonus is paid for CAT duty on deployments exceeding four nights.

Follow supervisory guidance on managing the legal expenses of defending and resolving lawsuits as well as avoidance of unnecessary litigation:

Handling of disputed claims to include settlement involving assignment of benefits, civil remedy notices, notice of intent to litigate, demands, or complex scope and price disputes.Complete timely DOI correspondence as needed

Draft and timely complete necessary case narrative reports to the claim files, reinsurers, and claims management.Ensure claim administration standards are met:

Comply with all Unfair/Fair Claim Practice Acts and Insurance Code Regulations.Ensure accuracy of system loss description, cause of loss codes, and financial transaction codes for proper information to underwriting and statistical bureau reporting.Operate within established file aggregate authorities for reserve and payment levels, securing the appropriate management level approvals above established authority.

Responsible for excellent team customer service levels:

Be courteous, polite and honor all commitments.Manage and diffuse conflict should it occur.Return all phone calls the same day as received.Ensure incoming mail is handled daily.Assist claim staff and customers with participating on the after-hours call roster.

Perform a variety of miscellaneous duties and special projects as assigned, inclusive of occasional field loss inspections, inside on-premises catastrophe duty, field catastrophe duty and attending settlement conferences, when needed.Maintain staff adjuster licenses and complete continuing education requirements as required by the States assigned.Develop excellent knowledge of company Best Practices and adhere to company policies.Complete monthly in-person open claim audit for each employee. This audit is designated "Stillwater's Monthly Box Review".Providing weekly/monthly reports to Claims Manager regarding statistics and staff performance.Completing and presenting annual performance reviews for staff, with contributions from Claims Manager.Approving time off requests for direct reports and ensuring sufficient coverage is available to meet the needs of the business.

QUALIFICATIONS

:

Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS/BBA) from a four-year college or university, and two to four years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Prior management or supervisor position preferred and proven leadership track record.Continuing Education such as CPCU or other advanced degrees preferred.Exceptional knowledge of property and casualty policies, insurance principles, loss reserving, and development skills.Sound business judgment and effective human relations, problem solving, and analytical skills.Excellent expense management skills.Working knowledge of appropriate legal principles, Unfair Claim Practice Acts, and Insurance Codes.Exceptional knowledge of damage estimating and repair techniques for property, personal property, and residential construction.Exceptional investigation and negotiation skills.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.Proficient on database software, internet software, spreadsheet software and word processing software and MS Excel.Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills.Strong organizational skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.Acute attention to detail.Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Reports directly to Claims Manager and closely collaborates with other supervisors.
