Basic Function/Overall Responsibilities: To provide a safe, healthy environment that supports acquisition and utilization of pro-social skills for youth residing in the HGS RTA residential program. Direct Care workers provide guidance and coaching in behavior choices to youth by teaching coping, social, and vocational skills. Individuals in direct care positions may be required to work irregular hours, including nights, evenings, and weekends.

Principal Assigned Responsibilities:1. Ensure that the facility is a safe, comfortable, and secure environment for staff, visitors, youth and families.2. Provide leadership and guidance to Direct Care staff, meet with staff on shift individually biweekly to provide feedback on job performance.3. Identify issues or concerns related to maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment and taken corrective action, and bling to the attention of Program Supervisors.4. Provide assistance/guidance to other youth care staff relative to the effective management of programs arising in the life space; participate in the supervision of Direct Care staff.5. Ensure that Direct Care workers adhere to program routine and follow individual treatment plans, supervision plans, and crisis intervention plans during assigned shift.6. Ensure supervision of youths in accordance with individual enhanced supervision plans, program protocol and agency policies.7. Participate in professional development trainings.8. Chair daily pre-shift meetings which sets the plan for the day as relative to recreation, visitation, transportation, medication management, etc.9. Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings and biweekly supervision, with input on meeting agendas.10. Ensure the completion of all written documentation as defined by program and agency policy and procedure.11. Ensure that all program and agency policies and procedures are followed.12. Successfully complete all required agency trainings as defined by program and agency policy.13. Ensure compliance with labor standards as related to staff breaks, and management of additional hours during shift.14. Become an agency Therapeutic Crisis Intervention trainer.15. In transitional services program coordinate intakes/referrals into program in accordance with program policy and procedure.16. Other related tasks and duties as assigned by supervisor.17. Ensure medication is passed as outlined in agency policy.18. Ensure meals and snacks are prepared and served as scheduled. Relationships-Supervision and Coordination: The Shift Supervisor reports directly to the program supervisor and has regularly scheduled supervision sessions with that individual. She/he must also maintain a positive and professional working relationship with all program, clinical, and support staff associated with that program.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

l. Minimum high school or equivalency diploma required; some higher education preferred.2. Experience working with juvenile justice involved youth highly desirable; sufficient maturity to work with and relate to youth required.

Demonstrate ability to critically think and respond appropriately to stressful situations.20. Strong verbal and written communication skills.21. Valid New York State Driver License.
