SUMMARY:
Operates a school bus in a highly skilled manner to ensure the safe transportation of students, staff and others to and from school on regular daily runs and on activity trips in accordance with state and district laws and regulations. Must be willing to be flexible as your daily task or routes my change.
Hours: Guaranteed 6 hours per day-Flex Schedule

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safely drives a school bus on a daily assigned route, observing all traffic laws, rules and regulations loading and off loading students at specific stops on an established time schedule. Drives a school bus on special district-approved activity trips, observing all traffic laws, rules and regulations in a safe manner. Assist in the servicing of automotive equipment including washing buses, recording oil and mileage readings as required, cleaning interiors, gassing, checking tires, batteries and other mechanical items as listed on the transportation department form. Performs a pre-trip/post-trip vehicle inspection check according to district requirements before/after each trip to determine possible deficiencies. Is responsible to report any mechanical difficulties, traffic violations, or accidents promptly to the Director of Transportation or designee. Is responsible for maintaining all licenses and other qualifications required of school bus operators. Is responsible for maintaining order and discipline in an effective and courteous manner among students being transported in accordance with district policies and procedures reports offenses directly to the Director of Transportation/designee and/or appropriate building administrator. Is responsible for dressing in a neat and safe manner. Is responsible to maintain a positive and professional working relationship with fellow employees, students, and administration. Is responsible to attend meetings requested by the Director of Transportation. Is responsible to maintain a professional demeanor when operating the transportation department radio system. Is punctual in arriving for assigned duties, and performing assigned trips. A strong desire to work with students Provide students with a safe and orderly environment Employee must exhibit a positive attitude, creativity, independent thinking and be able to take initiative. Responsible to prepare all required reports in a neat and timely manner. Prepares aides and students for bus drills and ensures bus evacuation drills are held as required. In case of accidents/emergencies, evacuates students according to written and practiced procedures, ensures that medical emergency procedures are followed. Speak, hear, see and write clearly with or without assistive device(s). Walk, stand for the full scheduled periods. Adhere to all Board and District policies. Perform other duties as assigned. Maintains consistent, predictable and physical attendance to meet the requirements of the position. Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED. Valid Michigan Driver's License. Excellent driving record. Ability to obtain, or currently possess, Commercial Driver's License (CDL), class B with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements. Ability to obtain, or currently possess, Air Brake endorsement. Basic understanding and knowledge of current technology. Pass DOT physical. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with students. Physical Requirement:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be physically present, regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; step; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust and focus. Supervisory Responsibilities:
The employee supervises students during the transportation to and from school or school related functions. Language Skill:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff. Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts; add; subtract; multiply; divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
