Media Specialist
Position Purpose
The Media Specialist works with both students and teachers to facilitate access to information in a wide variety of formats, instruct students and teachers on how to acquire, evaluate, and use the information and the technology needed in this process, and introduce young adults to literature and other resources to broaden their horizons. As a collaborator, change agent, and leader, the Media Specialist develops, promotes, and implements a program that will help prepare students to be effective users of ideas and information, a lifelong skill.
Skills, Knowledge, AbilitiesKnowledge of the National School Library Standards and its integration with NJSLS, ASCD, ISTE standards, and Future Ready Framework.Knowledge of educational and research databases such as Infobase, ABC-CLIO, LitCharts, Gale Cengage, and JStor. Familiarity with BCCLS is preferred.Ability to support media applications and provide PD for successful integration.Strong communication and collaboration skills (print, oral, and digital).Knowledge of Young Adult literature.Experience with digital libraries such as SORA or other platforms is preferred.Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Department Supervisor, or other central office administrator designated by the Superintendent.
Certification/License:
New Jersey certification as a Library/Media Specialist (ie: ASLMS or SLMS)Education:
Bachelors from an accredited college or university.Masters Degree preferred.Experience:
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels.
