JOB SUMMARYThis position operates a midsized bus for the City following established routes and schedules. May transport City officials and provide support transportation for other city departments, and other internal and external entities and organizations. This position reports to the Transit Supervisor, or designee.

Minimum Qualifications

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Drives and operates bus to transport residents within the City of Miramar.Drives handicapped-accessible bus for fixed and non-fixed passenger routes. Assists disabled and senior passengers in embarking and disembarking vehicles.Transports City officials, residents, and guests, etc. as required for various events.Per regulations, performs daily pre- and post-trip inspections on vehicles.Maintains various logs, checklists, and completes all required documentation.Performs general office work as required, including but not limited to, answering the telephone and two-way radio, etc. Operates general office equipment as necessary.Makes deliveries and pick-ups, as required.Interacts and communicates with immediate supervisor, other departmental supervisors and employees, other City personnel, clients/passengers, and the general public.Maintains fueling and cleaning of transportation vehicles and reports problems to supervisor.Will be required to perform job responsibilities, as assigned, for pre- and post- disaster situations.Will be required to work varied shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.Additional Job Functions:

Performs general housekeeping and light maintenance work, as required.Performs additional duties as assigned as they relate to meeting departmental needs.Position Requirements/Qualifications

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED equivalent.Two (2) years of CDL passenger driving experience.Valid state class "B" CDL driver's license with Passenger endorsement.Verification of the candidates drivers license record in the State of Florida Department of highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) to review the applicants complete driving history.

(There should be no more than 2 violations within the past 2 years.)Approved Florida Department of Transportation Medical Examination Report for Bus Transit System Driver.Obtainment of First Aid and CPR certifications.Employee will be subjected to a level I and level II background screening, and random drug and alcohol testing.Preferred Qualifications:

Emergency Management Responsibilities:During emergency conditions, all City of Miramar employees are automatically considered emergency service workers. City of Miramar employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.

GENERAL BENEFITS:

The City of Miramar provides benefits for its permanent full-time and part-time employees. Benefits will differ dependent upon the job classification and representation, which include union and unrepresented. VacationPermanent full-time employees earn up to ten days of vacation during their first year of employment. Accrual begins from the first month of employment, but cannot be used until after the third month of employment.

Permanent part-time employees have the opportunity to earn vacation after the completion of one year of continuous service.

Sick LeavePermanent full-time employees accrue sick leave at the rate of one day per month. Accrual begins from the first month of employment, but cannot be used until after the third month of employment.

Permanent part-time employees have the opportunity to earn sick leave after the completion of one year of continuous service.

Health PlanThe City currently provides medical coverage through Aetna. The City pays the health insurance premium for the employee and 50% of the premium for dependents.

Permanent full-time employees have the option of electing coverage from three plans: Health Network Only Plan (HMO), High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with HSA and Open Access Managed Choice Plan (POS).

Permanent part-time employees have the option of electing coverage from two plans: Health Network Only Plan (HMO) and the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP)The City also offers Dental coverage through Delta Dental.

Pension (Defined Benefit Plan)

Permanent full-time employees are automatically enrolled in one of the City sponsored pension plans, which are funded by mandatory City and employee contributions. The Plan provides a guaranteed income, based on years of service, to its members upon retirement.

457(b) Plan (Deferred Compensation Plan)

Employees can elect to participate in this Plan, which enables the employee the option of deferring compensation on a pretax basis, not to exceed the applicable limits established by the IRC.
