City Grants Accountant

Ascendo Resources is actively seeking a Grants Accountant for an immediate, fulltime, onsite, contract basis!
Our client, a reputable non-profit is located in New York, NY 10002.
The Grants Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate financial management of city-funded grants, including reconciliation, budget monitoring, and compliance with funding requirements. This role involves analyzing financial data, preparing reports, and collaborating with program directors and auditors to maintain the organization's fiscal health.
Hours : Mon - Fri, 9am - 5pm (35 hour work week)
Pay Rate : $35/hr - $40/hr
Essential Responsibilities:Prepare and monitor financial reports for city grants, ensuring compliance with grant terms and submission deadlines.Perform monthly reconciliations and review budget-to-actual comparisons to identify variances and recommend corrective actions.Record journal entries for payroll, fringe benefits, and other grant-related expenses.Assist program directors in creating and managing grant budgets, including modifications as necessary.Support independent audits by funding agencies and external auditors by providing documentation and answering inquiries.Oversee the proper financial closure of grants, including final settlements and compliance reviews.Maintain accurate and organized financial records for all assigned grants.Contribute to special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field required.2+ years of experience in grant accounting, particularly with city or government-funded grants.Skills and Competencies:
Strong analytical skills to review financial data and identify discrepancies.Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration across teams.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP functions.Familiarity with grant management software and accounting systems is a plus.Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with city grant compliance and reporting requirements.Knowledge of financial regulations related to government funding.
Work Environment:
This position may require occasional travel to attend meetings or audits. It is primarily based in an office environment with opportunities for hybrid work arrangements, depending on organizational policies.
