General Description:
The Plumber Journeyman is directly responsible for working on jobsites assigned by their Project Manager. They will be required to work directly under the Field Foreman and be responsible for training and leading Plumbing Apprentices and Helper level staff members assigned to their jobsite. Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Know
state and local plumbing regulations.
Assemble
pipe sections, tubing, and fittings using couplings, clamps, screws,
bolts, cement, plastic solvents, caulking or soldering,
brazing, and welding equipment.
Fill
pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges
to detect and locate leaks.
Review
blueprints and building codes and specifications to determine work details
and procedures.
Perform
complex calculations and planning for special or very large jobs,
including daily scope of work.
Locate
and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes,
and fixtures in structures using measuring instruments such as rules
and levels.
Study
building plans and inspect structures to assess material and equipment
needs, establish the sequence of pipe installations, and plan installation
around obstructions such as electrical wiring.
Measure,
cut, thread, and bend pipe to required angles, using hand and power tools
or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and
pipe-bending machines.
Install
pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers and
water heaters and fixtures such as sinks and toilets using hand
and power tools.
Cut
opening structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings using hand
and power tools.
Hang
steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place.
Install vent, storm,
sanitary, gas, and water piping systems and extend piping to connect
fixtures and plumbing to those systems.
Lead
and train small crews of Apprentices and Helpers as required or assigned.
Coordinate
with Field Foreman on needed materials and supplies.
Other
duties as assigned.
Job Duties:
Have a
general understanding of hand tools (tape measure, pipe wrenches, hammers,
screw drivers, etc.).
Be
able and willing to handle power tools in a safe manner.
Ability
to communicate verbally and in writing in a professional manner to all
levels inside and outside the company
Must
have the ability to work with, train, and lead Apprentices and Helper
level staff members.
Operate
in a safe manner and follow all safety requirements (wear proper PPE, keep
worksite organized, safe, and free of hazards).
