Metallurgical and Materials Engineer

Performs a broad range of tasks and projects related to metallurgical and materials research and development as well as routine evaluation and investigation and provides technical supports to related parties and departments. GIW is an industry leader in the design and manufacturing of slurry pumps, materials technology, and Research & Development, and this position supports the initiatives to continue driving the business forward.

RESPONSIBILITIES:Applies extensive knowledge and experience in all

metallurgical-materials

related activities of testing and R&D projectsResearches possibilities and creates proposals for new and improved materials (metallic, non-metallic and composites), especially for wear, wear-corrosion and other critical applications for slurry pumps and other related componentsEstablishes test/experiment scopes for R&D projects using experimental design and other related principles.Conducts materials characterization using a variety of means including optical and electron microscopyWorks on a large variety of materials needed for GIW products and applications, including metallic alloys (e.g. high alloyed cast irons and steels), composites, elastomers, ceramics and coatings/overlaysDesigns and performs (with technicians and other engineers) related materials testing and evaluation, such as corrosion test, wear test, mechanical testing, thermal analysis and simulationPerforms materials evaluation and failure analysis for properties, root cause of failure and/or quality improvementProvides technical supports in materials related tasks to parties/departmentsWrites internal reports and professional papers based on testing/research findingsCollaborates with other departments on various projects, including materials selection, capital projects, customer support/solutions, and other related items

QUALIFICATIONS:B.S. or graduate degree n Material Science and Metallurgical Engineering preferredCandidates with other educational backgrounds, but with relatively extensive work and research experience will also be consideredOne or more years of experience in metallurgical and materials research, testing, applications and failure analysisWork experience in wear resistant materials such as high alloyed cast irons, elastomers, composites and materials designs for industrial applications is a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Primarily desk-type duty
