The School Bus Driver is responsible for safely operating the school bus according to a set daily schedule. He/she must ensure that the school bus is in good operating condition at all times, pick up and drop off students as per the schedule, maintain order and security on the bus and obey all laws, regulations and rules of conduct.

Responsibilities:

Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure proper operating condition of vehicle and on-board equipment.Operate the school bus in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize and avoid the risk of injury, property damage, sleeping children, or loss of life.Operate the school bus in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures.Maintenance of a clean and organized bus. Ensure the bus is safely secured.Inform supervisor, and/or dispatch of any requirements for maintenance or repairs.Maintain schedules and order on the bus.Pick up and transport students as per set schedule. Take attendance on the bus and ensure students are aware of rules and responsibilities as passengers.Provide excellent customer service by operating wheelchair lift and assist handicapped in boarding, riding and alighting in a safe manner by ensuring the safety of all passengers by use of appropriate on-board restraints.Communicate effectively with dispatch via two way radio and report any behavioral or disciplinary issues.Reports hazardous or dangerous conditions along bus route and at passenger loading zones, including such hazards as unusual traffic, road conditions, obstructions, construction, and potential criminal activity.Adjusts to variables in normal working conditions, including adverse weather, traffic and construction, passenger problems, accidents and trip changes.Provides assistance in controlling accident or incident scenes.Performs other related duties similar in nature and level as assigned.Must attend mandatory meetings as required and maintainKnowledge:

Ability to operate school bus in a safe and responsible manner.Knowledge of highway and school bus regulation.Knowledge of how to work with children, and children with special needs.Knowledge of scheduling system and procedures, as well as record keeping.Ability to ready, write and speak Basic English.Ability to communicate courteously and effectively.Qualifications:

Must pass pre-employment physical, including DOT medical card and DOT Drug Screen.Must be 23 years or older, and no convictions of driving while suspended or revoked.Must be able to work varying shifts. Shifts assigned based on seniority.Attend employee meetings; including safety, training, retraining, etc., as required.
