Overview:
SageSure, the insurance first, tech-forward, capital-lite managing general underwriter that focuses on the underserved, preferred homeowners middle-market, is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer. We are looking for an experienced Java/Spring Developer to join our innovative and fast-growing team bringing to life the technology driving SageSure’s risk management and underwriting decisions, as well as capital and reinsurance strategies. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience with Java/Spring, a strong background in building and delivering well-architected software solutions, and experience using programming for mathematical/statistical computation. Collaborate with a team of software engineers, test engineers, and product managers to develop effective software solutionsLead technical meetings to create and review engineering solutions and document engineering plansDesign and construct REST APIsQuery, store, and provide data via API to support software related to catastrophe modeling and portfolio managementCollaborate with data architects to build data pipelines and relational database designMake informed database design and usage decisions using SQL & NoSQL databasesExperience with Cloud infrastructure tools, monitoring tools, and CI/CD pipelinesImplement high performance analytics on large volumes of model output data (e.g., risk composition, reinsurance efficiency, reinsurance optimization)Efficiently store large volumes of catastrophe modeling output data and generate portfolio and sub-portfolio views of aggregate and occurrence natural catastrophe lossesWork closely with the catastrophe modeling team to drive automation and efficiency of exposure and property catastrophe modeling data workflowsWe’re looking for someone who has:
Expert proficiency in Java/Spring microservices and REST APIsExperience designing and implementing RDBMS schema changesExperience using programming for mathematical computations over large volumes of dataExcellent communication and collaboration skills5+ years of experience developing software applicationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or relevant experienceIdeal candidates also have:
Experience at an insurer, reinsurer, ILS fund, or reinsurance brokerExperience building insurance or reinsurance portfolio management systemsFamiliarity with traditional and non-traditional reinsurance structures and associated pricing analyticsAdvanced degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or quantitative field preferredSoftware at SageSure:
