Description of Duties:

-The Director of Sponsored Programs Finance is responsible for developing and maintaining effective and efficient policies, business processes, and tools for the University's Sponsored Programs Finance (SPF) and research departments for a multi-institutional environment. Identify trends and track high risk sponsors, subawards, and report potential payment issues to leadership. Assure appropriate controls, systems, and reconciliation processes are in place. -Responsible for the financial aspect of subrecipient monitoring (financial audits and risk analyses), MWBE reporting and compliance, clinical trial financial management, processing cost transfers, journal entries, and zero clearing. -Lead implementation and training of the Jaggaer e-procurement system across the campus. Working alongside the Director of Sponsored Programs Administration and the Executive Director, serve as a subject matter expert in the design, development, and delivery of campus-wide training requirements. -Direct the timely and accurate preparation of required financial and accounting reports, working with the Research Foundation Central Office (RFCO) to ensure accuracy and submission. Close out all non-sponsored awards and, if necessary, residual balances and the movement of financial activity. -Manage review of cash flows, A/R, quarterly reports across research awards. Manage the process to invoice and collect all grant and contract revenue. Oversee the A/R aging. -Interpret regulations and guidelines for the university regarding fiscal award management. Assess risks and initiate changes where appropriate. -Direct and oversee the staff by assigning tasks, managing schedules, workload, time management and training. Resolve customer complaints and issues and intervene to solve complex problems. Ensure university policies and procedures are followed while providing value-added customer service. -Identify and implement methods to increase effectiveness and efficiency. Initiate process redesign to reduce administrative burden on Investigators, departmental administrators, and central staff while maintaining compliance and strengthening internal controls. -Lead the response to audit activities by federal, state, internal and independent auditors. Assist departmental personnel with audit activities. Defend audit disallowance claims. Maintain records of audit activity. Develop management responses, and define and implement corrective action plans, as necessary. -Develop and facilitate collaborative partnerships with school leadership, faculty and staff, foster understanding of policy and administrative issues and alignment around service levels and opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED: Bachelor-s degree with 10 years of related work experience OR an equivalent combination of experience and education. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage, motivate and coach a team under tight deadlines. Ability to take initiative, prioritize workload, and work independently. Well-developed leadership, managerial decision-making, planning, organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to anticipate changes in the business environment and proactively lead and manage change. Highly collaborative with the ability to use formal and informal authority, influencing skills, good judgment, and analytical problem-solving skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to respond to faculty and staff timely to resolve customer complaints and issues. Ability to understand and interpret 2 CFR 200, federal agency policy, and cost accounting standards. Understanding and hands-on experience with financial and e-procurement systems in a high-volume research award environment. Ability to guide and deploy the effective use of systems (Oracle, Jaggaer & Huron Research Suite preferred) to facilitate adherence to federal regulations and sponsor requirements. Working knowledge of federal grants and contracts to ensure financial responsibility with sponsors' close-out processes, including late draws and regulations. PREFERRED: Advanced degree or certification in Research Administration. 10 years of experience in grant and contract accounting and administration in an academic, non-profit, or higher education experience. Working knowledge of a research institution-s financial portfolio, including other areas that exist within a research institution, including, but not limited to: intellectual property, research subject protection, disclosure of financial conflict of interest, export control, accounts payable, and procurement. Working knowledge of a research foundation's portfolio.
