This position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer and shall not exceed 36 months. Public Works currently has a vacancy for a Civil Engineer Principal (5212) within the Bureau of Street Use and Mapping (BSM). The Bureau of Street Use and Mapping (BSM)
ensures that City sidewalks and streets are safe and accessible by permitting and inspecting the use of the public right of way. The bureau also collaborates on the development and execution of citywide initiatives to help businesses thrive and to activate shared public spaces. In addition, the bureau provides surveying services and maintains the official map of the City and County of San Francisco. As a Civil Engineer Principal, you will lead program planning, assigning, monitoring, and evaluating the work of subordinates within the section engaged in permit application review and issuance for regulating the use and occupancy of the public right-of-way. You will also serve as a primary point of contact for other divisions/sections within Public Works, other City Agencies, and external stakeholders for issues related to permit issuance impacting the public right-of-way. Important and Essential Duties: Your duties may include but are not limited to the following: Overseeing the functions of providing permitting review services through its service 'window' at San Francisco’s Permit Center in partnership with the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection (DBI).
