Founding Software Engineer - Backend

HyperDX, San Francisco, California, United States, 94199

Hi there! We’re building an

open source platform

for engineers to monitor, debug, and scale their production applications. We help developers collect and ingest terabytes of telemetry from their applications (ex. logs, metrics, traces, session replays) and provide tools to easily monitor their application/infra health and search through all that data to identify root causes of issues. If you’ve ever been on call and been frustrated at 2am over why your Grafana/Datadog/New Relic/Elastic/etc. isn’t providing straightforward answers to what’s gone wrong, you know exactly the problem we’re solving. We’re incredibly early in our journey, but have already captured significant interest from the wider developer community, reaching 6k Github stars, deployed by enterprises such as ARM, and thousands of teams on

HyperDX cloud .We’re hiring for a founding engineer who is excited to build a PB-scale high-performance observability streaming & analytics platform with a focus on crafting an amazing developer experience (the DX in HyperDX).The Role

You'll be hands-on building out various parts of the product (broadly focused on the backend), with an emphasis on creating the best developer experience to help engineers resolve incidents or bugs. You'll engage directly with our community of customers, open source contributors, and users (who are all engineers), listening to their feedback and acting on it quickly or providing assistance when needed. You'll tackle complex technical challenges, from building durable SDKs for various languages/platforms (Node, Deno, RoR, Java, etc.) to effectively scaling our ingestion pipeline and Clickhouse cluster.About You

You love to move quickly and ship often to solve real customer-impacting problems. You embrace ambiguity, executing on big ideas independently while collaborating with the team and customers when necessary.3+ years of experience as an engineer, with bonus points for experience building developer tools.Strong proficiency in Typescript for both our Next.js frontend and Express backend.Proficient in SQL for query generation in our Clickhouse DB.Comfortable with Docker/containers and familiar with Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms. You enjoy building alongside an open source community. You love learning new technologies and approaches, pushing the boundaries of your knowledge.Bonus Points

Deep experience with distributed systems, particularly in scaling high-volume event ingestion pipelines and columnar data stores (e.g., Clickhouse, Druid).Opinionated about observability tooling today and knowledgeable about how to achieve significant improvements.Curious about other languages and platforms, helping build/maintain our next iteration of integrations for anything from Rust to PHP.About Us

Currently, it’s just us, the founders (Michael and Warren). We are both deeply technical with a passion for building great developer tools on solid and scalable infrastructure. We plan to continue scaling the team to meet the incredible customer demand we’ve experienced and are well-capitalized with years of runway. On the technical side, you can learn more about our setup in our

contributing docs . In production, we run on AWS and Kubernetes. We believe there’s a rewarding experience ahead in re-thinking how developers are empowered when tackling their next bug ticket or responding to incidents. If you’ve read this far, drop us a note about the most memorable incident you were part of!
