Kansas State University (“Kansas State”, “K-State”, or the “University”) has engaged Major, Lindsey & Africa on an exclusive basis to conduct a search for a Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel (“General Counsel”).University:Kansas State University is a comprehensive, research, land-grant institution serving students and the people of Kansas, the nation, and the world. Since its founding in 1863, the University has evolved into a modern institution of higher education, committed to quality programs, and responsive to a rapidly changing world and the aspirations of an increasingly diverse society.Overview:Reporting directly to the President, the General Counsel is the principal legal officer for the University, with overall responsibility for the vision and leadership of the University’s legal strategy. A valued member of the leadership team and Cabinet, the General Counsel provides advice and counsel on all significant legal matters and serves as a strategic thought partner on key issues impacting the University. The General Counsel is also responsible for leading and managing K-State’s Office of the General Counsel.Experience:The successful candidate is a collaborative and strategic leader with at least 10 years of significant and broad-based legal experience. The ideal candidate will have proven experience leading teams and advising senior executives. Candidates with experience handling the legal issues facing land-grant universities, institutions with high research activity, and/or Division I college athletics programs are highly desired.Compensation:Competitive salary and excellent benefits.Location/Relocation:Manhattan, Kansas. A relocation package will be provided as needed.In-Office Attendance:This is an in-office role. Remote candidates will not be considered.Bar Admission:Membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction with the ability to become licensed in Kansas within one year of hire.
