Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Digital Manufacturing Consultant to support a manufacturing company on its journey to modernize its technology infrastructure and implement a Manufacturing Execution System (MES). The ideal candidate will bring expertise in evaluating, assessing, and advising on existing systems and environments, with a focus on simplifying and enhancing technology stacks to improve manufacturing operations.In this role, you will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Advisor, guiding the company through its digital transformation process, including package selections, system implementations, and roadmap development to achieve their manufacturing excellence goals.Key Responsibilities:Evaluate & Assess Current Environments:Conduct thorough assessments of existing manufacturing systems, identifying gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement. Analyze current technology stacks, data flows, and integrations to understand pain points and propose solutions.
Support Package Selection for MES:Provide expert guidance and recommendations on selecting the appropriate Manufacturing Execution System (MES). Evaluate potential solutions, considering company-specific needs, industry best practices, scalability, and integration capabilities.
Define Target Roadmap:Develop a detailed and actionable roadmap for implementing MES and related technologies. Define clear milestones, timelines, and deliverables, outlining the “how” to modernize the manufacturing environment, from architecture to execution.
Simplify Complex Environments:Help unwind legacy or overly complex systems (referred to as “spaghetti environments”) and replace them with standard, scalable, and modern technology stacks. Focus on streamlining operations, reducing technical debt, and improving overall system stability and performance.
Act as SME/Advisor:Serve as the trusted advisor to the client, sharing deep knowledge of digital manufacturing technologies, MES implementations, and industry best practices. Assist in guiding key decision-makers through the complexities of digital transformation and ensure the strategic alignment of technology initiatives with business goals.
Collaboration & Communication:Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, operations, and engineering, to ensure smooth implementation and alignment across the business. Deliver clear and compelling presentations, technical documentation, and progress reports to executives and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:Manufacturing Company Experience:Proven experience working with manufacturing companies, ideally with annual revenues of $1B or higher. Familiarity with manufacturing processes, operations, and industry standards.
MES Expertise:Extensive experience in evaluating, selecting, and implementing Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). Experience with at least two different MES platforms is required.
Digital Transformation Experience:A strong background in leading digital transformation initiatives within manufacturing, particularly in modernizing IT infrastructures, simplifying tech stacks, and driving operational efficiency through technology.
Excellent Communication & Presentation Skills:Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proven ability to present to senior leadership, influence decision-making, and drive alignment.
