We are currently seeking a Technical Solutions Architect to join the Digital Repository department within the USC Libraries. This position provides technical leadership, analysis, and design across business, information, technical and solution viewpoints and enterprise architecture. The Technical Solutions Architect works with business teams and stakeholders to scope projects and define high-level requirements. The position will develop appropriate application and custom integration solutions and ensure that system architectures are functional, robust and appropriate for the Digital Repository’s specific business and technical needs. The position defines multiyear architectural evolution and roadmaps for Digital Repository services. The Technical Solutions Architect conducts research in emerging technologies and continuously identifies technologies with high-potential business value and develops and integrates technology acceleration and innovation processes. Job Accountabilities: Provides technical leadership, analysis and design of IT systems for the Digital Repository. Partners with business teams and stakeholders to scope projects and define technical and budgetary requirements. Develops appropriate enterprise-level solutions including all new systems, major enhancements to existing systems and adapting existing solutions. Manages system design and development through release and support. Ensures that system architectures are functional, robust and appropriate for the specific business and technical needs. Reviews technical team deliverables for compliance with architecture standards, guidelines and leverages best practices. Ensures delivered solutions are monitored, have a support plan, and adequate business controls. Defines multi-year architectural evolution and roadmaps for USC Digital Repository. Conducts research in emerging technologies and continuously identifies technologies with high-potential business value and specifies their appropriate usage in developing business solutions. Provides day-to-day technical support for USCDR IT systems and technical leadership for the USCDR IT support staff.
Ensures that failures, incidents or end user problems are resolved in a timely manner. Develops and integrates technology acceleration and innovation processes with the overall project management practices, Engineer-to-Engineer processes, and software development lifecycle. Serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to individual projects in the areas of IT architecture and technology selection decisions. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time. Qualifications: Must have experience with network attached storage, storage area networks, tape storage systems, firewalls, network security, network routing. Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Must possess a minimum of 10 years of experience managing, designing, and implementing complex technical solutions. Must have recognized experience in at least one IT discipline (Networking, Information Security, High Performance Computing, Cloud Computing, Software Engineering, IT Infrastructure) Must have demonstrated ability to lead in a highly matrixed, heavily federated organization through a combination of influence, partnership, and authority. The ability to create original concepts/theories for various projects and to work independently. Must have the ability to develop and maintain key relationships necessary to achieve business objectives. Must have extensive knowledge in the use of Project Management and Enterprise Architecture methodologies and tools. Must have strong leadership skills. Must have Linux/Unix knowledge. Must be familiar with Media Assess Management workflows. Must have experience developing and deploying prototypes to scalable pipelines and applying software development lifecycle principles. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, able to provide both detailed information as well as summaries to varied audiences. Must have substantial knowledge of security concepts and best practices. Must have the ability to build strong, positive working relationships and rapport with diverse groups of team members. Preferred Qualifications A graduate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Engineering is preferred.
