Tax Managing Director, Core Tax Services

Job Summary:
The Tax Managing Director is responsible for applying industry specific knowledge to advise clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. In this role, the Tax Managing Director is charged with applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues, recognizing and communicating potential risks and changes in tax policy, and making top-level decisions regarding filing, preparation, and resolution of questions from federal/state agencies. Additionally, the Tax Managing Director will be a critical member of the office/region leadership team and will supervise as either a final or secondary reviewer under the partner. Finally, the Tax Managing Director actively participates in marketing, networking, and business development within an area of expertise while maintaining client relationships and acting as the primary contact for complex questions.
Job Duties:
Tax Compliance
Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens.
Manages engagements to achieve management metrics.
Practices hands-on client service delivery.
Responsible for overall client service by encouraging team adherence to Firm policies and the BDO Tax Quality Manual ("TQM").
Research
Identifies when research is needed and frames issues concisely.
Identifies complex issues for research and provides methodology for efficient research.
Acts as a technical reviewer of WTAs in an area of expertise.
ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals
Applies Firm policies regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48 proactively.
Reviews and applies income tax provision efficiently.
Tax Consulting
Assists in developing and implementing methods to maximize client benefits and decrease taxes.
Applies expert knowledge of tax processes and multiple tax specialties for issue identification and resolution.
Tax Specialization
Develops an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues regarding various areas of taxation.
Uses expertise to advise clients on tax implications and recommend compliance methods.
Strategy Development
Introduces new ideas to improve client and Firm positions.
Other duties as required
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Ability to supervise associates, senior associates, and managers.
Reviews work prepared by associates and provides feedback.
Acts as a Career Advisor to associates and managers.
Schedules and manages workload of team members.
Provides performance feedback to team members.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Education:
Bachelor's degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics preferred.
Masters in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
Experience:
Ten (10) or more years of relevant tax experience required.
Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred.
Prior supervisory experience required.
License/Certifications:
CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent required.
Possession of other professional degrees or certifications preferred.
Software:
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance software preferred.
Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively delegate work as needed.
Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.
Capacity to work well in a team environment.
Ability to compose written tax advice.
Executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact.
Individual salaries offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
