JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Penn State Altoona is seeking a Campus Housing and Food Services Manager to oversee all campus housing/food operations. This position's primary responsibility is to provide a safe, secure, clean, and well-maintained living and working environment for students, families, staff, and all other campus community members. This is a full-time salaried position, based at the Penn State Altoona campus. The Housing and Food Services Manager is a vital part of the team in leading to continue the vision and mission of the department. They are responsible to for supervising a staff of up to 40 full-time employees and up to 150 part-time employees, as well as overseeing the daily activities and administration of all residential and retail food services and housing operations for nearly 900 students.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Administer and oversee residential and retail food services and housing facility operations at specific Commonwealth Campus locations; act as liaison between Housing/Foods, various University departments, and external customers/vendors
Provide a safe and secure residential and working environment; ensure compliance with safety and operational standards, food quality control procedures, and regulatory inspections
Execute environmental stewardship in all operational areas; project, schedule, and oversee equipment and facility maintenance; participate in renovations and upgrade projects; recommend equipment purchases; as directed, consult with contractors, architects, facility planners
Under management guidance and direction, research, develop, market, and implement new products, menus, recipes, concepts, and process efficiency improvements
Maintain supply, key, and equipment inventory; place orders, negotiate prices, and make purchases; resolve quality and quantity disputes
Review and analyze budgetary items; identify and propose business growth and cost containment opportunities
Create a student-centered work environment through residential community involvement; engage with students, student groups, athletics, academic leadership, parents, conference participants, camp attendees; provide timely response to inquiries; follow-up/escalate as needed
Hire, train, coach, schedule, supervise, and evaluate assigned employees; communicate and enforce standards
Follow Collective Bargaining Agreement provisions; participate in grievance procedures, hearings, and arbitration as required
Participate in departmental and University-wide initiatives and committees; complete special projects and reports as assigned
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Food Service, or related field(s) plus six (6) years of relevant experience. Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, while leading and managing the workforce
Strong written and verbal communication skills
