Position SummaryGEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Manager with a passion for building high performance, low-latency platforms, and applications. You will build and manage a team of engineers with a deep focus on delivering enterprise-wide product to operate in a highly performant and efficient way. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we redefine experiences for our customers.Position DescriptionOur Senior Manager is an engineering leader who works with the engineering staff to innovate and build new engineering solutions, improve and enhance existing solutions and leverage them to solve critical operational problems. A Senior Manager will lead strategy and execution of a technical roadmap focusing on increasing product delivery velocity and unlocking new engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise to improve application performance, capacity benchmarking, improve availability and reliability, design and evolve cloud infrastructure and architecture.Position ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with the Director to manage project dependencies, negotiate delivery dates, and ensure the timely completion of projectsIdentify and address project risks, presenting implementable solutions or alternativesUnderstand how requirements and design choices may impact systems across multiple areasInitiate and support performance evaluation of team membersCraft fully compliant quality documentationCollaborate with the product teams to understand their pain points around performance, resiliency and formulate strategies to address recurring issues in a sustainable wayCultivate a culture of motivation and achievement, building and maintaining trustful relationships with team membersAddress technical or analytical skill gaps, challenging team members to share knowledge and learn new technologiesConstantly up to date with current software engineering best practicesCraft and deliver persuasive arguments to drive projects for process improvement, cost leadership, and customer experience enhancementManage up to leadership and provide feedback when necessaryDevelop and be accountable for the team budget, reporting on results achieved at regular intervalsMindset of efficiency and utilization improvementsContribute significantly to the team planning process, including surfacing team’s proposalsAbility to construct roadmaps, manage and translate projects into deliverables, adjust priorities, and be able to understand and adjust the team capacity as neededQualificationsFluency in at least one modern language such as Go, Java, and Python (Go/Python preferred)Hands-on developing software at least 10-20% of the timeExperience with open-source software is a plusWorking knowledge of functional and object-oriented development paradigms, and design patternsPassionate for all things testing (unit, integration, functional, performance, etc.)Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, and core computer science conceptsImplemented RESTful and GRPC services, event driven architectures, microservices and librariesKnowledge of cloud computing technologies and concepts (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, etc.)Knowledge of Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure etc.)Experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessmentsUnderstanding of SQL, and NoSQL databases, including stateful services management and storageUnderstanding of networking, caches, key/value stores, load balancing, global load balancing, queues, DNS and CDNAbility to construct, interpret, and apply metrics for decision-making, prioritization, and progress visibilityStrong site reliability engineering principlesStrong passion for technology and engineering excellenceExceptional leadership and communication skillsEffective negotiation abilitiesAdaptability and capacity for learning technical concepts quicklyCommitment to fostering a culture of trust, accountability, and continuous improvementStrategic thinking and the ability to drive projects for positive changeOne or more of the following or relevant certifications are a plus but not required:

Experience8+ years of experience in leadership position8+ years of leading a Site Reliability Engineering team6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including software development lifecycle best practices.5+ years of development in a large-scale, mission-critical environment5+ years of hands-on work experience supervising personnel in a technical environment.5+ years of experience with one of the public cloud - AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service2+ years' experience with automated testing including Unit, Integration, and End-to-End functional testing.EducationBachelor’s degree in information technology or related field, or equivalent experienceAnnual Salary$120,000.00 - $300,500.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate.
