SummaryThe purpose of this job is to lead certain pipeline support activities and assist in the identification, coordination assessment, and securing of pipeline- and portfolio-enhancing, business opportunities (through licensing, acquisition, co-promotion, and other structures). This role will, at times, interface with DS's Oncology Business Unit and the Specialty Medicine Business Units and is responsible for executing business development opportunities across a range of categories designed to advance the existing pipeline (including companion diagnostic deals, combination studies, and ARO collaborations). This role will also support more complex projects, including those to acquire new product opportunities or technologies to augment our pipeline. This person is responsible for coordinating cross-functionally (e.g with commercial, R&D, legal, IP, finance, supply chain, and other relevant functional area colleagues), at varying levels, and across geographies. Externally, the job requires initial meetings with potential partners; coordination of capability presentations; coordination of diligence meetings; leading negotiation sessions in concert with senior GBD Transactions team members; and alliance management participation following successful completion of business arrangements. This role may also require participation in supervising, training and developing entry-level business development professionals within the Global BD function (e.g. Fellow).
Responsibilities
- Execute assigned transactions through proposal/review/negotiation of EOI/NBTS and Definitive Agreements, either acting as Lead for simple opportunities or supporting more complex transactions. Work in concert with key Functional Area Leads (esp. OBU, RD Finance, RD (GPTL), BD Legal and others) and Senior Management Global BD/DS Corporate Tokyo to secure alignment on key terms and conditions prior to and during active negotiations. Communicate activities frequently across the organization through related internal approval committees including (but not limited to) EMC.- Communications should include sharing of key contract related terms and conditions to key stakeholders as well as the related strategic, financial, scientific and commercial rationale for each opportunity reflecting internal analyses as well as diligence activities. Respond to QA from Finance, Tokyo BD, Oncology Business Unit, GPTs, CBM, Senior Management, and other key stakeholders as indicated.- Meet with other pharmaceutical company licensing groups, participate in industry meetings.- Together with colleagues from Search and Evaluation, coordinate with commercial, RD, finance, supply chain, IP, legal, etc., on both preliminary and full assessments of potential opportunities, and summarize conclusions and recommendations for discussion with and presentation to senior management. Schedule and lead diligence meetings with potential partners.- Support other special projects, including initiatives within and external to GBD, to improve processes and workflowsQualifications:
