We are looking for somebody who is an expert problem solver, has experience leading projects, and has a deep knowledge of process development and root cause analysis. The candidate will apply first principles engineering to solve problems leveraging a deep understanding of physics, mechanics, mathematics, and material science, as well as their knowledge of materials and manufacturing methods for medical devices.In this role, a typical day will include:Responsible for designing mechanical components, systems, and products for class III medical devices.Generating detailed fabrication drawings utilizing mechanical tolerance analysis.Developing requirements, leading design reviews, performing verification and validation, production transfer, and related documentation.Applying advanced level principles of engineering analysis to blend technical knowledge and manufacturing practices in providing solutions to complex engineering challenges.Utilizing statistical tools (such as GR&R, SPC, t-test, and Cp/Cpk) to ensure processes/fixtures are scalable and perform properly once qualified.Specifying tests to be performed, compiling data, and making recommendations for process development and product design.Using Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis.Designing for manufacturability - providing early and ongoing manufacturing involvement to ensure new products are manufacturable and scalable.Leading engineering teams from inception to completion of projects.Mentoring junior engineers.Applying knowledge of materials and manufacturing methods for medical devices.Developing test methods and completing testing through the entire life cycle of the product.Ensuring regulatory/statutory/legislative compliance for all project work.Working as part of cross-functional project teams including EE, SW, QA, ME, OE, Manufacturing, and Field Service.Experience:Proficiency in CAD; SolidWorks and Creo (Pro/E) preferred.Experience with MiniTab or JMP.Knowledge of data collection with strong data analysis (descriptive, regression, correlation, etc.).Knowledge of design for fabrication methods including machining, casting, injection molding, and rapid prototyping.Proven ability to develop solutions for problems that require regular use of creativity.Knowledge of ISO, FDA, MDD, and regulations applicable to the design and development of medical devices.Optics background strongly preferred.Strong LabVIEW experience is a plus.Physics background a plus.Full stack for product cycle development from prototyping to full-scale manufacturing a plus.Rapid prototyping a plus.What You'll Bring to Alcon:Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc. +9 yrs; M.S. +2 yrs; PhD +0 yrs).The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English.5 years of relevant experience.How You Can Thrive at Alcon:Join Alcon's mission to provide outstanding, innovative products and solutions to improve sight, improve lives, and grow your career!Alcon provides a robust benefits package including health, life, retirement, flexible time off, and much more!Travel Requirements: 5%.Relocation assistance: Yes.Sponsorship available: No.Alcon CareersSee your impact at alcon.com/careers#LI-DNIATTENTION: Current Alcon Employee/Contingent WorkerIf you are currently an active employee/contingent worker at Alcon, please click the appropriate link below to apply on the Internal Career site.Find Jobs for EmployeesFind Jobs for Contingent WorkersTotal RewardsAlcon's Total Rewards programs are designed to align incentives with business goals, encourage the right values and behaviors, and deliver long-term value.
