Departmental OverviewThe School of Information (I School) advances knowledge and practice everywhere humans interact with digital technologies. Through interdisciplinary research and teaching we are committed to expanding access to information and to improving its usability, reliability, and credibility while preserving security and privacy. Our faculty conduct research in human-computer interaction (HCI), security and privacy, applied data science, and technology in developing regions.
This position is responsible for managing application evaluation and decision making for all four of the School of Information graduate programs. This includes the development and oversight of application review strategy, operations, and technology, as well as the hiring, training, and managing of external reader admissions committee members.
Responsibilities

Responsible for hiring, training, onboarding, and managing admissions readers. Responsible for overseeing quality and quantity of work.

Oversees the selection, development and evaluation of reader staff to ensure the efficient operation of the review process for all I School graduate programs.

Responsible for reading a high volume of applications and making final admissions decisions for the I School's MIDS, MIMS, and PhD programs.

Creates, distributes, and oversees application review process efforts across team. Monitors the progress of this work. Reviews, processes, and approves all admissions review needs. Helps direct and resolve any operational issues and discrepancies that may arise during review process.

Work closely with team members to ensure all parts of admissions review process are successful, i.e., with admissions coordinator on operational and technical preparations, and with senior director of admissions on enrollment targets.

Ensures reader team feels involved and invested in I School community. Oversees reader team morale. Recommends personnel-related actions, as needed.

Supervises and follows internal policies and procedures.

Leads admissions cycle debriefs to ensure improvements are made each year.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Strong interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling to effectively motivate others.
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
Strong service orientation with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced department, work under multiple deadlines, and have the ability to prioritize workflow in a logical manner to meet strict and important deadlines.
Thorough knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population.
Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems and not deterred by ambiguity. Ability to be resourceful, innovative, adaptable, and flexible.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of the I School's admissions evaluation processes and procedures, rules and regulations.
Working knowledge of Slate and other campus systems.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $80,400 to $112,900 yearly ($6,700.00 to $9,408.34 monthly). This is a 100% FTE career position eligible for full benefits. This position is FLSA Exempt and paid monthly.
