GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENTThe Laboratory of Exercise Physiology and Physical Performance (LEPPP) is located on the 3rd Floor of the Boston Lying-In Building (221 Longwood Avenue) and is a state-of-the-art exercise physiology facility that houses instrumentation for assessing muscle strength, power, and fatigability, parameters of aerobic function, tests of physical function, and resistance exercise training equipment. We also use nearby long corridors for functional walk tests and a little used, well-lit stair well for our stair climbing power test.We are looking for a Co Op student to work with us within a clinical research setting. The student will be an integral member of the LEPPP research team, working closely with the Laboratory Director and Exercise Physiologists, assisting in the administration of a wide array of assessments of muscle function, physical performance, and functional capacity on individuals participating in research studies that investigate function promoting therapies.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist in administering tests to different subgroups including healthy younger and older men and women.Assist in administering tests to potential populations with mobility limitations, spinal cord injury, and chronic diseases including endocrine disorders, obesity, HIV infection, and cancer.Involved in the design and delivery of clinic-based and home-based exercise training programs.Assist with protocol development, recruitment, and retention of study participants.Involved with data entry and data analysis.Other LEPPP related duties as needed.QualificationsUndergraduate student majoring in Exercise Physiology, Health Sciences, or related fields.Prefer individuals with exercise science or patient-care background and an interest in clinical research.Strong organizational, time management, and documentation skills.Excellent analytical skills and strong communication and writing skills.SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:Familiar with assessments of muscle function.Familiar with assessments of physical performance and functional capacity.Comfort level with participating in research studies that investigate function promoting therapies.EEO StatementBWH is an Affirmative Action Employer.
