Under general supervision of the Data Center Services Manager, the Storage and Backup Service Administrator is primarily responsible for the Data Center backup and storage technologies, providing first and second tier support ensuring the service remains available 24x7. This position is a member of a team that has high campus impact as it supports systems critical to the University's mission. This role researches, proposes, and implements backup and storage solutions supporting other Data Center services, including both on-prem and cloud storage and backup technologies. Plans and implements integrations with our virtualization environment and engages with clients on backup and storage solutions. Works on short and long-term assignments within the division, and contributes to the workgroup, unit or department on special projects. Minimum Qualifications

* Degree in Information Technology or related field and/or equivalent experience and training.* Experience working in a enterprise environment supporting SANs and other storage devices.* Experience managing enterprise backups and managing a complex, hybrid storage and backup environment.* Experience with Windows and Linux system administration.* Experience following industry trends in storage and backups, investigating solutions, testing those solutions, and deploying those new technologies.* Experience programming in one of the following: Perl, bash, python, SQL with a in-depth understanding of programming languages and concepts.* Interpersonal and written communication skills to clearly communicate technical issues and to effectively communicate with tact and diplomacy to various audiences.Preferred Qualifications

* ITIL certification* Experience using VMware, Veeam, AWS S3, Data Domains, Purestoreage, Netapp software and hardware.* Experience using ServiceNow, or other ITSM ticketing systems.* Experience working in an enterprise environment managed by change control.* Skills to follow complex technical procedures in a demanding, client-service-oriented environment with strict, dynamic deadlines, complex scheduling requirements, and little or no tolerance for errors or delays.* Skills to work independently and in a team environment to effectively provide support and consulting services to clients.* Ability to learn and develop new skills from self-guided study and apply knowledge to relevant tasks and projects.Key Responsibilities

The mission of Information and Educational Technology (IET) is to create and support an information technology environment that enhances the ability of the UC Davis community to teach, do research, and provide public service. In support of the University's mission, IET will deliver an infrastructure of technological services appropriate to the requirements of the campus community.IET provides the foundational and enabling infrastructure, hardware, software and systems that provide support for institutional activities including Data Center, virtualization, system administration, Identity and Access Management, Email, Telecommunications, network, website hosting, content management, and information security.Within the Enterprise Infrastructure Services (EIS) division of IET, the Data Center provides the backbone to all compute on campus; maintaining over 1,000 VMs and 4PB of data at multiple locations, supporting services critical to all campus operations, including the student information system, DNS and Identity and Access Management.The Storage and Backup Service Administrator is viewed as an experienced technical analyst who provides advanced support for the backup and storage infrastructure to both IET and campus clients. Working closely with the virtualization team, this position contributes to the overall virtualization, storage, and backup services for campus.

Work Environment

* Hire MUST be located in-state. (Out of state applicants will be considered but must relocate instate if hired). This position is hybrid, required to work on-site one day each month or as needed for system work, with the expectation that the employee also must be available to come on site should management deem it necessary for emergencies, meetings, support activities, etc. No reimbursement of travel expenses, travel time not considered work hours.* Due to the mission-critical services provided by this department, this position may work hours other than M-F 8-5, especially in response to system problems. Must be routinely on-call as required and carry a cell phone. Vacation is restricted during peak periods. Occasional travel required between campus and off-campus locations. This position requires a valid California Driver's license and is subject to DMV pull-notice System.
