to become an integral part of our team. This is a Term Limited Temporary/Special Duty Assignment. This journey-level position is responsible for fabricating and repairing a variety of ferrous and nonferrous alloy metal structures and equipment. The Automotive Welder will use specialized equipment to weld, design, and repair metal forms.About the Vehicle Maintenance DivisionThe Vehicle Maintenance Division takes pride in meeting our customers' expectations for safe, dependable, clean, and environmentally sound vehicles. Metro's bus fleet maintenance takes place at seven bus bases and at our central Component Supply Center, where specialized work is done. The majority of Metro's buses are hybrids, followed by electric trolley, and several battery-electric buses. Metro has long been an innovator in green vehicle technology and plans to transition to battery-electric buses as we move toward our goal of a zero-emission fleet. This position will not be eligible for PERS.As an Automotive Welder (Transit Metal Constructor), you will also:Perform skilled oxyacetylene and electric arc welding and cutting on transit and automotive vehicles and mechanical equipment;
able to use plasma cutter.Fabricate and repair various types of mechanical equipment.Perform skilled welding (stick, mig, and tig) in the shop and field on all types of metals and alloys, including soft and low-temperature silver soldering.Fabricate and repair brackets, vehicle frames, pump bases, tanks, panels, tools, shafts, and related mechanical equipment.Interpret drawings and specifications, layout work, mark dimensions, angles, and cutouts on metal plates and pipe.Cut, shape, and weld metal plates, parts, and structural members.Build up metal on shafts, bits, and tools for machining.Shape, punch, drill, and secure metal parts, steel decks, trusses, machinery foundations, brackets, and hand & guardrails;
