Senior Cost Accountant

Purpose and role of job:
Responsible for applying principals of cost accounting in the manufacture of products, conduct studies to provide detailed cost information by product for management analysis and maintain accurate, material, labor and overhead costs for each products and its applied inventory value in accordance with GAAP.
Principal Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:
• Plans, studies and collects data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory, labor, and overhead. Analyzes data obtained and provides summary reports to management. • Analyzes changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided to determine effects on cost. • Analyzes actual manufacturing costs and prepares periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs. Update as necessary. • Administers the overhead budgeting and budget variance analysis process. • Prepares standard costing labor and overhead rates, administers standard cost system and the update of standard costs as necessary. • Prepares periodic reviews of bill of materials accuracy and inputs changes to BOM's as required. • Administers the schedule of physical inventories and cycle counts, and the process of booking adjustments and analyzing variances. • Produces monthly reports of key manufacturing statistics and indicators with associated analysis, and reviews with applicable staff members. • Analyzes proposed capital expenditures, lease vs. purchase decisions for ROI, payback period, and other decision-making criteria. • Supports startup of additional plant lines, including startup cost analyses, asset segregation studies, and sales and use tax studies. • Provides ad hoc cost analysis and decision making support to Operations and other staff members.
Education and experience requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other related field (preferred). • 5 years experience in the cost accounting field (7-10 years experience preferred). • Strong PC skills, including experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access) and ERP platform software. • Advanced analytical and communication (verbal and written) skills.
Work Environment:
Office Environment. May spend time on the manufacturing floor Observes all safety rules and uses the proper safety equipment at all times.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit, walk, talk, use hands and arms to type on a computer. Needs to be able to listen/hear using a telephone.
