Principal Function:

The Wastewater Laborer is responsible for the maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and Sewer Collection System.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include, but are not limited to: Assist with all aspects of the department activities such as municipal lift stations, maintaining sewage and stormwater collection systems, operation of specialized equipment such as sewer televising system and jet/vac truck, building and ground repair and maintenance and wastewater treatment plant equipment repair and maintenance. Assist with ensuring wastewater system operations comply with related state laws, Town ordinances, and federal standards and regulations. Perform maintenance duties on the Town's wastewater collection system and lift stations. Clean sanitary/storm collection systems; operate vac truck to flush collection system; open clogs in lines; clean manholes, wet wells and lift stations. Conduct wastewater collection system locates; use and calibrate locating equipment; accurately read and interpret maps. Repair, maintain and ensure the security of manholes and pump stations; record flow rates and pump hours. Maintain detailed and comprehensive collection system installation, repair, and maintenance records. Assist with bio-solid disposal, such as loading trucks and hauling material off-site. Assist, as required, with updating sanitary sewer and storm maps. Assist, as required, with completing final sanitary and storm sewer utility inspections. Assist, as required, with the general maintenance of all Wastewater Department Buildings. Assist with investigations, audits, surveillance, monitoring, inspections, sampling, analyses, research, training, outreach, recognition, permits, enforcement, and all other pretreatment activities and programs. Assist with responding to inquiries and complaints regarding wastewater and related areas and initiate action to resolve valid complaints/requests. All other duties as assigned by the Field Supervisor or his/her designee. Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

High School Diploma or G.E.D.; and one years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Class B CDL license with Airbrakes preferred. Previous experience working in municipal government is desired.

Must have and maintain a verifiable Driver's License, demonstrated safe driving record, and remain insurable through the Town's liability insurance carrier if applicable.

This job operates primarily in the general community with moderate safety/health hazard potential. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

While the role follows a work schedule of 6:30AM to 3:30PM, Monday through Friday, this job will require work beyond these hours which may include weekends and holidays. Employee shall be on-call as required. Frequent in-town travel will be required.
