Position Summary
The Senior People Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for driving the strategic and operational effectiveness of the People Department. Acting as a trusted advisor and thought leader to plant leadership, this role champions a culture of inclusion, high performance, and employee engagement.
The Senior People Manager leads key initiatives in talent strategy, labor relations, organizational effectiveness, and employee development. This individual serves as a vital link between corporate HR strategies and plant operations, ensuring the delivery of best-in-class HR services to support the organization's long-term goals.
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in labor relations, talent management, and organizational transformation, with a proven ability to influence and lead through complex challenges.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Policy Governance: Develop, implement, and enforce people policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with business goals and compliance with employment law and collective bargaining agreements (CBAs).
- Labor Relations: Lead contract negotiations, manage union relationships and provide strategic counsel to the leadership on labor-related matters. Act as the primary representative for high-level grievance resolution and arbitration.
- Change Management: Partner with senior leadership to drive organizational transformation initiatives, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and adaptability.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to align HR strategies with plant objectives, ensuring the People Department contributes to the overall success of the organization.
Talent Strategy & Organizational Development
- Talent Acquisition: Develop and execute a comprehensive talent strategy, ensuring the organization attracts and retains top talent across all levels. Oversee full-cycle recruitment for salaried and hourly roles.
- Succession Planning: Own the succession planning process, identifying and developing high-potential talent for future leadership roles.
- Performance Management: Lead the performance management cycle, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, and provide coaching to senior leaders for impactful team management.
- Employee Development: Design and implement leadership development programs to build a pipeline of future-ready leaders.
Employee Engagement & Relations
- Serve as a culture ambassador by driving employee engagement initiatives, such as recognition programs, employee surveys, and diversity and inclusion efforts.
- Act as a trusted advisor to plant leadership and employees, fostering open communication and resolving workplace challenges proactively.
- Develop and lead strategies to enhance employee experience and retention, ensuring alignment with organizational values.
Operational Excellence
- Oversee compliance initiatives, including HR audits, I-9 verifications, and personnel file maintenance.
- Utilize HR metrics to identify trends, measure effectiveness, and implement improvements. Provide regular updates to senior leadership.
- Manage budgets, headcount tracking, and workforce planning to meet organizational needs effectively.
- Ensure consistency and excellence in the delivery of HR services, processes, and systems.
Training & Development
- Lead the creation and implementation of robust training programs, including onboarding, leadership development, and technical skill-building.
- Partner with operational leaders to identify skill gaps and deliver targeted training solutions.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Master's degree or HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) preferred.
Experience:
- 8+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 4 years in a senior HR leadership role.
- Extensive experience in labor relations and union environments, including leading contract negotiations and dispute resolution.
- Proven track record of driving organizational change and leading high-impact HR initiatives.
Skills:
- Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and the ability to link HR strategies to business objectives.
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Expertise in HR analytics, with the ability to interpret data and deliver actionable insights.
