Relocation Assistance is available.Position SummaryVeritas Steel is seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Leader for our growing steel fabrication manufacturing business. The position reports to the Plant Manager and will be responsible for the development, implementation and performance of safety programs, metrics and all related training. The successful candidate will be able to partner with managers in the business at all levels, to not only support but drive the overall business improvements.
This position will support the Wausau facility.
Principle Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop safety policies/procedures, benchmarks safety programs and techniques to enhance the workplace safety and sustain programs to support compliance, injury reduction and prevention with the clear mandate to drive change that leads to a Zero Incident CulturePerform workplace assessments, identify hazardous conditions including routine safety inspections and take corrective actions to drive closure from findingsAssist HR in investigating and preparing reports for all workers' compensation casesAssist with and monitor assignment of restricted work as requiredRepresent organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations surrounding environmental and safety issuesAssist in the investigation of workplace accidents and perform root cause analysis; recommend/take corrective action and complete all logs and required reportsMaintain and publish metrics designed to update management/employee awareness and measure progressMaintain working knowledge of federal, state and local health and safety regulations and ensure compliance with regulations that apply to facilityDemonstrate experience in safety process improvement and statutory requirementsAbility to interpret and apply OSHA regulations on a practical basisEnsure compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organizationServe as contact with all federal, state, and local regulatory bodiesKeep company required EPA recordsAdminister and maintain State required safety and health programsMaintain OSHA required records on accidents and maintenanceChair the Site Safety Committee and conduct continuous improvement safety training for the membersEnsure supervision and employees fully understand their EH&S responsibilities and participate with them to identify problems and achieve resolutionPlan and implement effective safety programs for all levels of employees that address work site safety practices, correct handling of equipment and material to ensure workplace conditions comply with federal and state occupational safety and health provisions and protect the workforceEnsure and monitor first aid/CPR training for identified site first respondersExecute emergency evacuation plan to include conducting quarterly drills for evacuation and severe weather scenariosProvide annual new and refresher training for certified/licensed powered industrial equipment operatorsEnsure proper PPE is provided and used as requiredAssist, as needed, with any special requests from operations such as working with contractors, preparing purchase orders, etc.Drive Near Miss process and ensure Safety Committee actions and communications the responses to Near MissesSchedule and participate in any relevant Accreditation preparation and certification reviews including 3rd party auditsMaintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) on hazardous materials used in the workplaceRespond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programsAdminister and maintain company policiesKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesFamiliarity with basic medical terminologyStrong written and verbal communication skills with the demonstrated ability to communicate successfully with multiple levels within an organizationA working background in collaborative and accountable team environmentsExperience in Workers Compensation Insurance issuesEducational RequirementsMinimum Qualification: Bachelors degree in a technical or safety related fieldPreferred Qualifications: CSP, ASP, CIH
