Schedule: Sunday – Thursday 11PM – 6AM.
SUMMARY
Responsible for safely operating a yard truck/tractor to move and spot trailers or containers to or from the dock doors according to door assignments or reposition trailers on the facility yard in an orderly, timely and efficient manner to facilitate operational needs as directed by SWMS (Sysco Warehouse Management System) tasking or as requested by warehouse or transportation personnel. Requires working outdoors in all weather conditions and temperatures. Performs all duties safely, accurately and meets set productivity standards and goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive and safely operate a yard tractor around the facility and yard at 15 mph or under.
- Follow and complete SWMS tasks to safely move and spot (drop and hook) trailers to and from dock doors and on the facility yard. Prior to backing trailer to loading dock, open swing doors on trailer, and close when pulling swing door trailers away from the dock.
- Complete manual trailer moves safely, such as shuttling trailers to the shop for maintenance and other ad hoc needs, as requested by warehouse or transportation personnel.
- Move trailers systematically and physically as requested to and from the maintenance shop for repairs/inspections.
- Fuel refrigerated (reefer) trailers as needed.
- Check to ensure that each trailer is sealed, and that the refrigeration unit is operating correctly and running.
- Record startup time and reefer set points for pre-cooling purposes.
- Set reefer temperatures for all temperature controlled outbound loads.
- Ensure trailer is completely loaded and secured before moving from the dock area.
- Ensure trailer doors are closed while not in the dock, except when backing trailer with swing doors into the dock to unload, or when pulling from the dock before sealing.
- Perform yard and trailer temperature/fuel checks on dropped trailers when requested by gate personnel.
- Arrange trailers on the yard in an orderly manner to maximize yard efficiency.
- Perform brief, visual trailer inspection at each hook up to ensure trailer is road worthy prior to any move and loading.
- Report any unsafe trailer which is not road worthy immediately to dock office personnel so that a replacement trailer can be assigned.
- Ensure any trailer repairs are finished before using the equipment.
- Communicate any fuel spills on the yard to gate personnel and your supervisor.
- Mitigate any fuel spills by assisting to clean up the spill.
- Ensure yard tractor has adequate fuel spill supplies onboard.
- Keep yard free of debris and trash.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with warehouse and gate/transportation personnel via 2-way radio.
- Work effectively with immediate supervisor to minimize warehouse shrink/damage (product loss).
- Responsible for the neatness and cleanliness of assigned yard tractor.
- Report any unfixable/unsafe issues immediately to supervisor.
- Observe and enforce all safety rules to eliminate accidents and injuries.
- Follow policies and procedures and observes safety and security procedures.
- Perform tasks and operate all equipment in a safe and orderly manner to eliminate accidents and injuries.
- Ensure that yard tractor is maintained (perform daily inspection such as check oil and fluid levels, lights, hoses, and tires) and clean; report repair or service needs to supervisor to minimize equipment damage and down time.
- Use Company computers and equipment in a safe and professional manner to avoid damage to equipment.
- Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies (i.e., attendance, Code of Business Conduct & Ethics, Associate Handbook, etc.
- Comply with all applicable State/Federal laws, regulations, and policies (i.e., OSHA {Occupational Health and Safety Administration}, HACCP {Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points}, etc.).
- Supports food safety policies, standard operating procedures, and prerequisite food safety control programs that meet legal and quality requirements and industry best practices as defined in our Food Safety Commitment documentation.
- Perform other transportation duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred; a minimum of six (6) months previous yard jockey experience, or equivalent is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must have ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must have ability to read and write simple correspondence. Must have ability to speak effectively in one-on-one and in a small group situation and to respond to questions from managers, associates, and peers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must adapt to changes in the work environment and follow instructions and respond to management direction.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. Job is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and temperatures. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is frequently exposed to moving motor vehicles on the yard, mechanical equipment, extreme cold or heat in the outdoor environment. The associate is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment usually is loud.
WORK HOURS
This is a full-time position. The incumbent must have the ability to work a varying schedule which might include shift work (days, mid-shift, or nights), weekdays or weekends, and some holidays. Work hours may vary, or change based on customer order, departmental or business requirements.
