Summary:

The Senior Data Architect will be responsible for designing and implementing robust data architecture solutions to support PennDnA's data management and analytics initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data architecture, database design, and data modeling, with experience in healthcare data management and analytics.

Responsibilities:

Data Architecture Design: Design and develop scalable, reliable, and high-performance data architecture solutions to support the organization's data management and analytics needs. Define data architecture standards, best practices, and guidelines to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency in data management processes.

Database Design and Optimization: Design and implement database schemas, tables, views, and indexes to support efficient data storage, retrieval, and analysis.

Data Modeling and Metadata Management: Develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models and dataflow diagrams to represent the organization's data assets and relationships. Develop metadata management, glossary and cataloging processes to capture and maintain metadata definitions, lineage, and usage information for data assets.

Data Integration and ETL: Design and implement data integration solutions to consolidate and integrate data from disparate sources, including electronic health records (EHR), clinical systems, research databases, and external sources. Consult with Data Engineers to guide development of ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines.

Data Governance and Security: Define data governance policies, procedures, and standards to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of healthcare data assets. Implement data security controls and access management mechanisms to protect sensitive healthcare information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse.

Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements and develop solutions that meet organizational needs. Mentor junior members of the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the team.

Continuous Improvement: Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in data architecture, data management and ETL processes. Look for opportunities to optimize the team's processes and workflows. Education or Equivalent Experience:

Bachelor's degree. (Required) 3+ years of experience in data architecture, database design, and data management, experience in healthcare data analytics or a related field. Proven track record of leading and executing moderately complex projects with minimal oversight. (Required) Epic Clarity Data Model (must be completed within 6 months of start date). (Required) Skills/Abilities:

Subject Matter Expertise - Experience in relational database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL). Proficiency in data modeling tools and techniques (e.g., ERwin, PowerDesigner, Data Vault). Experience with data integration technologies (e.g., Informatica, Talend, Databricks) and ETL tools (e.g., SSIS, DataStage). Knowledge of data governance frameworks, regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR). Strong understanding of stakeholder needs. Applies knowledge to solve problems and contribute ideas to team strategy. Analytical thinking - Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business-friendly language. Communication & Interpersonal Skills- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate complex concepts to a diversity of stakeholders. Relationship building - Develops credibility and trust. Collaborative. Ability to develop and maintain professional and collegial relationships. Mentors more junior members of the team.
