Job DescriptionElementary Principal

Primary Function:To serve as the educational leader and chief executive of the school; to be responsible for the direction of the instructional program, provide the proper supplies, equipment, facilities, and the atmosphere for the educational process.

Administrative Relationship:Directly responsible to the Superintendent.

Performance Responsibilities:

1.Students:

a)Assigns all students in such a way as to encourage optimum growth.b)Makes periodic appraisals of pupil progress.c)Develops school plans and organizational procedures for the health, safety, discipline and conduct of students as set forth in district procedures.d)Plans, coordinates, and evaluates the total program of pupil services, including guidance and counseling.e)Establishes mutually responsive and effective rapport with pupils of the school and counsels accordingly.f)Promotes effective home/school relations to improve learning conditions for children.g)Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in each classroom

2.Faculty:

a)Provides leadership to the staff in identifying school needs, determining the objectives, and meeting these objectives.b)Establishes an effective school administrative organization with clear lines of responsibility and necessary delegation of authority.c)Identifies, provides, assigns and coordinates inservices growth opportunities for teaching personnel within the school.d)Supervises and evaluates the performance of all assigned personnel in accordance with the district's adopted uniform guidelines for evaluation and assessment, recommends appropriate action in cases of sub standard performance, and identifies and encourages individual teachers with leadership potential.e)Promotes innovative teaching strategies.f)Adjust grievances.

3.Programs:

a)Implements the district-approved curriculum program in the light of individual school needs.b)Creates a flexible program and optimum school environment most favorable for learning and personnel growth.

4.Operations:

a)Plans, supervises, and directs the business operation of the school with advice from staff, in accordance with district policies and procedures.b)Plans for the most effective use of school facilities.c)Directs staff in the proper maintenance of the school plant.

5.District Administration:a)Utilizes available district resource personnel and material, in the improvement of the school programs.b)Implement the philosophy, goals, objectives, and policies of the district as adopted by the Board of Education and State education code.c)Provides for the reporting of effective programs for district information and for public media.d)Maintain professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.e)Complies with the State Education code and district board policies.

Requirements / Qualifications

Administrative Credential RequiredA minimum of five (5) years of certificated experience. Administrative experience preferred.Master's Degree preferred
