School Nurse Health Services Chair Principal JOB GOAL: To establish and maintain a collaborative relationship with the certified school nurse, health aide, teachers and administration to assist in identifying and problem solving medical/ psychological social health care issues of the student population. To administer student medication using professional nursing experience, for medical and educational benefit following State Guidelines. To assess student or staff health status and provide appropriate nursing care as needed.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policy /procedures, and state and local mandates. Administers medication with appropriate documentation. Maintains medication in locked cabinet. Assist Certified School Nurse with student or staff wellness programs. Assist Certified School Nurse with special school or district projects as needed such as obtaining allergy action plans, asthma or seizure health plans. Assist Certified School Nurse and health aide in maintaining the health office as needed Monitor building AEDs regularly and report maintenance needs to health service secretary. Participates in maintaining accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions, and the related archival responsibilities. Make appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter. Maintains communication with the certified school nurse, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action, which will meet the health and safety needs of students. Provides health services and counseling in an effective and positive manner to enhance the health and wellness of the school community. Completes accident/incident reports for students/staff. Compiles data for statistical purposes. Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues. Maintains a daily log of student/staff visits and documentation on individual health records Maintains the daily environment of the health office facility and supplies Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties. Performs other health or school related work as required. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Utilizes continuing education opportunities to enhance professional knowledge. Participates as an active member of the school community, representing health/wellness. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Hourly pay as determined by the District. Work hours may flex as the student needs change but are generally 7.5 hour/day. Staff nurses work on student attendance days only.

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated within the first six months of employment and then bi- yearly by School Nurse and Principal per TalentEd.
