Position Summary:
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Grants Accountantwillprovide assistanceand coordinate thedevelopmentand monitoring the organization's annual budget and budgets for funders. TheGrants Accountantwill also develop budgets for new proposals.TheGrants Accountantis also responsible for managing all contracts and grants - serving as the liaison between program staff, accounting staff, and the funder/grantor. TheGrants Accountantwill provide consultative direction to Program Directors regarding their program budgets, financial outcomes, and programmatic outcomes.This position willprovide assistancewith month-end and fiscal year closeout and general financial analysis for both public and private grants for all departments.
Qualifications:
Required:
B.A. or B.S.from an accredited four-year college inBusiness, Finance, Economics, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of accounting with at least 3 years of non-profit experience, preferably in an organization with multiple programs. Positions held must demonstrate a broad and deep understanding of accounting principles and functions, budget preparation and management, grants administration, or an equivalent combination. Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and current accounting rules and regulations as applies to nonprofits. Excellent computer skills including proficiency in the most current versions of Windows and Office (Wordand Excel) and ability to use the internet effectively. Strong Excel skills and financial modeling. Excellent written and oral communication skills,and ability to interact positively and professionally with others. Versatility, flexibility, and an ability to work in an environment of constantly changing priorities. Ability to work independently; self-motivation to follow-up and follow-through with tasks. Ability to analyze problems, gather information, assess alternatives, and develop solutions. Demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines under pressure. Knowledge of unrestricted and restricted funding sources. Ability to gather and analyze data in order to produce reports and make improvement recommendations. Ability to understand complexities of grant contracts. Experience with HUD grants preferred. Must have a valid California Driver License, a driving record acceptable by the Agency's insurance company, and proof of personal vehicle insurance. Must be able to meet Immigration Reform Act of 1986 requirements.
Essential Functions/Skills:
General
Work with government contracting officers to clarify all administrative and financial requirements contained in proposals,agreementsand amendments. Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of contracts and related reporting requirements. Communicateperformance to Finance Director and Program Directors on a monthly basis, including surplus or shortfalls,analyze and confirmallowable strategies foradjustment. Work withaccountingstaff to implement and maintain tracking and administrative processes to assist the programs in managingagreements andensure timely submission of all deliverables and agency approval of extensions and budget changes. Reconcile financial information, including matching components, to all agreements, identify variances,investigate,and resolve accounting errors or discrepancies and ensure that properly documented adjustments are made, and review financial documentation to ensure compliance. Organize and maintain original documents and financial records for all agreements, includingsub-contractsand sub-awards, consistent withBonita Houseand external agency requirements. Working withaccountingstaff to ensure compliance with Federal OMB Super Circular, State or local requirements andBonita Housepolicies,proceduresand performance standards. Perform analysis of various grants on a monthly basis, including but not limited to budget to actual comparison, monthly financial analysis and projections, fund sources reconciliation, and program cost-metrics. Collaborate with accounting team to complete timely month end closing of balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements with appropriate backup documentation and supporting schedules Assistwith preparation of Cost reporting. Coordinate any financial monitoring required by local authorities. Ensure all active projects are covered by valid, binding contracts. Prepare contract billing, audit schedules, funders' reports, cost allocations Perform ad hoc analysis and reporting. Participate in or lead special projects as opportunities arises Accounts Receivable & Cash
Prepare and submit drawdowns and invoices for reimbursement contracts. Prepare invoices and financial reports for submission to various funders, including private and government agencies according to requirements of respective contracts. Assist withmanagement ofcash flow projection worksheet;Monitoring cash flow to identify problems with collections or disbursements.
Physical Requirements
Physical demands include continual sitting, typing, and repetitive computer use for up to 8 hours a day. The position also requires frequent communication with others, including hearing and speaking clearly with individuals and groups, in person and via phone and video calls. Ability to lift 15 pounds at times. These requirements are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the job's essential functions.
