Assistant Principal
JOB GOAL:
To serve as the assistant instructional and administrative leader of the school; to work with staff, students, and community to ensure a high quality educational program; and to formulate and accomplish the school's mission

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of a master's degree from an accredited college or universityPossess a valid administrative certificationMinimum of 3 years' teaching experienceValid Alabama Professional Educator CertificateKnowledge of curriculum development, effective classroom practices, and professional developmentGood public relations skillsAbility to understand the unique needs and learning characteristics of students of the school assignedAbility to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457Ability to supervise and attend events after school hoursKnowledge and ability to use and facilitate the use of various forms of education technology and assist in instructional practicesSuperior leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills and ability to be an instructional leader across multiple settings. Demonstrates support for the school system, its vision, goals, and priorities.Assists in providing administrative leadership for all staff and students in assigned school.Assists in conducting staff meetings and trainings to promote efficient functioning of the school, the curriculum, the athletic program, and the behavior program.Demonstrates the ability to multi-task, to delegate appropriately, and to prioritize tasks efficiently.Maintains confidentiality of any Board of Education business, its staff, and its students.Knowledge of the principles and practice of effective leadership.Demonstrate and models regular and predictable attendance.Demonstrate professionalism in appearance and in attitude at all times.Demonstrate the ability to use technology for communication, presentations, research, data analysis, budgeting, record keeping, reporting, scheduling, and other job responsibilities as required.Assists principal with assessments, ACIP, and counseling issues that may arise.Assists principal with curriculum, instruction, developing strategies to help students succeed, observations, interviews, evaluations, and all other items related to instruction.Assists principal with facility management, maintenance, cleanliness of school, organization of athletic fields, transportation of students, and all other items related to building operations.Assists principal with personnel issues that may arise.Assists principal with federal programs.Assists principal with disciplining of students, attendance monitoring, referrals, hearings, student behavior, and all other items related to student services.Assists principal with special education meetings, identification, behavioral interventions, manifestation hearings, and all other items related to special education.Assists principal with financial decisions and budgetary management as needed.Assists principal with technology implementation and trainings as needed.Assists principal with the development of newly assigned staff members and assigns Mentors as needed.Assists principal with communications, through staff meetings and written/electronic correspondence, about information that will keep staff informed of policies, procedures and instructional program changes and updates.Participates in district meetings, state meetings, and other activities that relate to professional development and effective school operations as assigned.Assists principal in overseeing school improvement process and the implementation of school improvement plans, accreditation and accountability reports, and other required plans.Demonstrates high-expectations for self, for staff, and for students, and creates an environment that has goals that are both rigorous and achievable.Assists principal with interviewing staff.Conduct periodic and consistent observations using state approved evaluation tools.Conduct professional meetings with individual teachers to discuss observations, attendance, and evaluations. Place signed documents in personnel files under the guidance of the HR Coordinator and the principal.Demonstrates proficiency using technology to enter data, generate reports, create presentations, and utilize software purchased by the BOE.Supervises extracurricular activities.Possess the desire and a willingness to attend professional development activities to enhance leadership abilities.Provide building security and assists in emergency situations, drills, etc. to enhance school safety.Assists principal in maintaining and up-to-date school calendar and maintaining the day-to-day operations of the school.Performs other duties as directed by the principal.

Based on the St. Clair County School System Salary Schedule
