Purpose of Position:
The Nurse Practitioner works as part of the clinic provider team performing a variety of direct patient services including assessment, diagnosis, implementation of treatment, evaluation, and monitors the general patient management plan for clinic patients. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for delivery of quality medical care to the patients of the center and functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team within the scope of his/her medical practice.

Essential Functions:
• Obtains complete medical history from patient.
• Prescribes medications under the delegations of the supervising physician according to therapeutic goals, explains treatment to patients and families in accordance with TSBME and TSBNE regulations.
• Teaches and counsels patients and families.
• Consults with physicians and other members of the health care team as necessary.
• Performs other necessary duties as required by the health center to meet the goal of providing primary health care services.
• Provides leadership and education for clinic staff.
• Performs complete physical examinations on patients, including pelvic exams if needed
• Orders routine and diagnostic lab and x-ray studies according to protocols.
• Formulates a working diagnosis for acute and chronic illness based on clinical findings, laboratory and x-ray reports and the results of other diagnostic procedures.
• Initiates and monitors patient management plans for patients assigned using protocols or consultation with a supervising physician.
• Refer patients requiring hospitalization or assessment and management of conditions to supervising physicians or appropriate specialist.
• Renders emergency care and treatment including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, starting I-V fluids and medications.
• Consults with physicians and other staff members as necessary.
• Complies with state and federal policies, and our client's procedures and standards.
• Maintains all patient records to comply with required standards, review records regularly, and obtain physician counter signatures where necessary. Entries in the medical records will be legible and timely.
• Complies with OSHA and CLIA regulations

Qualifications
• Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.
• Must have at least 3 years' experience as a nurse practitioner (must have pediatric experience)
• Current CPR/BLS certification
• Texas license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner
• Certification by the appropriate specialty board.
