**Purpose/Scope**

The Custodian is responsible for the care, upkeep, and cleaning of assigned areas, residential rooms, and the surrounding areas.

**Responsibilities**

Responsible for cleanliness in all areas of responsibility. ~ Use cleaning equipment, including automatic floor machines, commercial vacuums, wet mops, large wringers and other necessary equipment, tools, chemicals, and supplies. ~ Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, stairways, and other work areas so that health standards are met. Clean and maintain supplies in restrooms. ~ Sweep, vacuum, mop, wax, and polish floors. Dust and polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures, and equipment. ~ Perform special cleaning of induction units, walls, lighting fixtures, and windows, both inside and outside, move furniture and set up meeting rooms. ~ Provide linen removal, cleaning, and exchange. ~ Remove trash from premises and assist in cleaning emergency spills that are observed or as requested. ~ Maintain assigned equipment and supplies for cleanliness and request repairs when needed.

**Minimum Knowledge**

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Previous custodial experience preferred.

Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment.

Knowledge of cleaning supplies, techniques, and the safe handling of cleaning supplier.

Skilled in cleaning rooms, bathrooms, furniture, equipment, sweep, mop, dust and arrange room to set standard.

Ability to perform semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of building and related facilities.

Additional knowledge/skills may be required by assignment.

**Work Environment**

Ability to perform some heavy lifting.

Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable.

Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.

Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions.
