IAC - Industrial Accessories Company, Overland Park, Kansas, United States

At IAC, we're not just participants in the industry; we're pioneers. With over 35 years of expertise in EPC contracting, capital equipment supply, OEM, and parts and service, we continue to push boundaries and redefine standards. Based in Overland Park, KS, our commitment to innovation and excellence has solidified our position as leaders in air pollution control and bulk storage solutions. Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Field Sales Application Engineer with specialized expertise in Dust Collection Airflow Analysis . This position is integral to our mission of delivering industry-leading dust collection solutions that prioritize both operational efficiency and worker safety. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of industrial ventilation, system design, and advanced airflow dynamics, and will be adept at identifying and resolving system inefficiencies in diverse industrial environments. As a Field Sales Engineer, you will be responsible for evaluating existing dust collection systems, designing optimized solutions, and providing technical support to ensure that our clients' systems are both compliant with industry standards and operate at peak efficiency. This role demands a proactive problem-solver with a strong technical foundation and the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Key Responsibilities: 1. Client Consultation & Pre-Assessment: Initial Client Interaction: Engage with clients to thoroughly understand their specific dust collection challenges, operational requirements, and long-term goals. Conduct preliminary assessments to identify key areas of concern, such as dust particle types, system inefficiencies, or regulatory compliance issues. Preparation for Site Visit: Develop a detailed site visit plan, including safety considerations and necessary equipment for assessing system performance. Collaborate with internal teams to align on client expectations and project objectives. Safety Protocols: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company protocols during site assessments, particularly when working at heights, in confined spaces, or with hazardous materials. 2. Industrial Ventilation & System Design: ACGIH Industrial Ventilation Standards: Utilize in-depth knowledge of ACGIH (American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists) standards to evaluate the effectiveness of industrial ventilation systems. Assess whether existing systems meet or exceed these standards, and provide recommendations for improvements where necessary. Ductwork Design Evaluation: Inspect and evaluate the design and configuration of ductwork systems, focusing on proper sizing, layout efficiency, and minimal resistance. Identify potential issues such as improper branch connections, sharp bends, or undersized ducts that may impede airflow and reduce system efficiency. Design Recommendations: Propose design modifications or complete system redesigns to improve airflow, reduce static pressure, and enhance overall system performance. 3. Airflow Measurement & Static Pressure Calculations: Precise Airflow Measurement: Conduct detailed airflow measurements using pitot tubes, anemometers, and manometers at critical points within the ductwork. Analyze airflow data to detect inconsistencies or areas with suboptimal airflow that may indicate blockages, leaks, or design flaws. Static Pressure Calculations: Perform comprehensive static pressure calculations across the entire dust collection system to ensure that the fans and dust collectors are operating within their design parameters. Evaluate pressure drops across filters, ductwork, and other components to identify areas where energy efficiency can be improved. 4. System Analysis & Troubleshooting: Advanced System Diagnostics: Conduct in-depth analyses of dust control systems, identifying operational issues such as poor dust capture, excessive wear on system components, or energy inefficiencies. Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to troubleshoot complex system problems and develop effective solutions. Airflow Balancing: Perform system-wide airflow balancing to ensure that all branches and collection points receive adequate airflow, thereby optimizing system performance. Adjust dampers, redesign ductwork, or recommend fan upgrades as needed to achieve balanced airflow throughout the system. 5. Dust Collector & Fan Design Evaluation: Dust Collector Analysis: Evaluate the design and operational capacity of dust collectors, including filter selection, inlet/outlet configuration, and integration with the overall system. Ensure that dust collectors are correctly sized and capable of handling the specific dust load and particle characteristics present in the client’s operation. Fan Sizing & Design: Assess the sizing, design, and performance of fans within the system, ensuring they are capable of overcoming system resistance and maintaining the required airflow. Evaluate fan efficiency and energy consumption, recommending upgrades or adjustments to improve performance. 6. Pneumatic Conveying Systems: System Performance Evaluation: Apply comprehensive knowledge of pneumatic conveying principles to assess the effectiveness of dust transport within the system. Identify issues related to material handling, such as blockages, abrasive wear on ductwork, or insufficient transport velocity. Optimization Recommendations: Propose system enhancements to improve conveying efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and extend the lifespan of system components. 7. Technical Reporting & Client Communication: Detailed Technical Reporting: Prepare and deliver comprehensive technical reports that document all aspects of the system assessment, including airflow measurements, static pressure calculations, and performance evaluations. Provide actionable recommendations supported by data, technical analysis, and best practices. Effective Client Communication: Present findings and recommendations to clients, ensuring clarity in communicating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Offer follow-up support to clients to ensure the successful implementation of recommended changes and to address any ongoing concerns. 8. Additional Responsibilities: Travel & Site Work: Willingness to travel extensively (up to 50% of the time) to conduct on-site evaluations in various industrial settings, potentially including international travel. Comfortable working at heights, including climbing ladders and accessing elevated ductwork, as well as working in confined spaces or challenging environmental conditions. Ongoing Professional Development: Stay current with industry trends, advancements in dust collection technology, and updates to relevant safety and regulatory standards. Participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities to maintain and enhance technical expertise. Required Skills & Qualifications: Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of ACGIH Industrial Ventilation Standards and their application in industrial settings. Proficiency in ductwork design, static pressure calculations, and fan sizing, with a strong foundation in system design and optimization. Diagnostic & Troubleshooting Skills: Extensive experience in analyzing and troubleshooting dust control systems, with the ability to diagnose complex problems and develop effective solutions. Skilled in using pitot tubes, anemometers, manometers, and other diagnostic tools for precise airflow measurement and system analysis. Design & Engineering Acumen: Experience in dust collector design, fan sizing, and pneumatic conveying systems, with the ability to recommend design improvements that enhance system performance and efficiency. An engineering degree is beneficial but not mandatory; candidates with strong practical experience in these areas will be highly considered. Communication & Reporting: Exceptional technical report writing skills, with the ability to document findings clearly and provide actionable recommendations. Strong communication skills for interacting with clients, delivering presentations, and collaborating with internal teams. Physical & Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, with the ability to adapt to various industrial environments and work conditions. Physically capable of working at heights, climbing ladders, and navigating challenging work environments.
