Petroplan is seeking an Electrical Technician with expertise in Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) to join our clients team located in Wink, Texas. The technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of VFD systems, ensuring they operate efficiently in industrial environments. Key duties include diagnosing system issues, performing preventive maintenance, and supporting new system installations. The ideal candidate should have a solid technical background, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and operational excellence. Compensation will be based on experience. This is a newly created position based in Wink, TX, reporting to the Electrical Supervisor. Key Responsibilities Installation & Commissioning: Install VFD systems in line with manufacturer specifications and industry standards. Configure VFD parameters according to application requirements. Perform testing to ensure systems function properly post-installation. Maintenance, Troubleshooting, & Repairs: Conduct routine preventive maintenance on VFDs and related electrical equipment. Inspect, clean, and service VFD components like cooling fans, heat sinks, and wiring. Update VFD firmware and software as necessary for optimal performance. Diagnose and repair faults within VFD systems using diagnostic tools. Replace defective components, including power semiconductors, capacitors, and control boards. Analyze electrical schematics to identify and resolve issues. Collaborate with engineering teams on system improvements and upgrades. Safety & Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, including using personal protective equipment (PPE). Ensure compliance with all relevant electrical codes and company safety standards. Implement lockout/tagout procedures and follow other safety protocols during electrical work. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and installations. Document system configuration changes and parameter adjustments. Generate reports on VFD system performance and recommend improvements as necessary. Technical Support & Training: Provide technical support to colleagues and other departments on VFD operations. Assist in training operators and maintenance staff on VFD usage and troubleshooting. Stay current with the latest VFD technologies and best practices. Qualifications Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electronics, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years' experience in electrical maintenance, with a focus on VFD systems (including ABB, Siemens, Rockwell Automation). Strong knowledge of electrical principles and motor control systems. Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and technical manuals. Experience with electrical testing and diagnostic tools, such as multimeters and oscilloscopes. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work both independently and in a team, in a fast-paced environment. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various job sites as needed. Preferred Qualifications Relevant certifications such as Journeyman Electrician or VFD Technician Certification. Physical Requirements & Working Environment Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying environmental conditions. Must be able to walk and navigate uneven terrain. Exposure to loud noises and industrial hazards is possible; adherence to safety protocols is mandatory.
