Job Summary: Under the general direction of the Director Facilities, Maintenance and Operations working closely with Athletics Plumber and Building Control Systems Technician. This position is responsible for HVACR /refrigeration systems, mechanical maintenance, preventative programs, and problem solving work for all facilities of the Division of Intercollegiate Athletic building and equipment maintenance systems. Work is to be performed for the large network of Intercollegiate Athletics building complexes; Including the Kohl Center Arena, Camp Randall Football Stadium, Kellner Hall, LaBahn Arena, Fieldhouse, McClain Practice facility, Goodman Diamond softball complex, University Ridge golf course, McClimon Track/Soccer complex, Crew Boathouse, and other departmental building systems. The work ranges from preventive maintenance to emergency repair. Responsibilities: Lays out, installs, remodels, and maintains pipe systems for heating/chilling water hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and steam systems within power houses, distribution systems and buildings to ensure adequate, safe, and operable institutional facilities. 5% Interprets blueprints and drawings to assess and verify specifications and to calculate the materials and equipment required. Discusses project plan with customer/client 5% Gathers materials, prepares work area, and maintains equipment and supplies needed for jobs 20% Performs skilled steamfitter work according to established trade standards and applicable building and safety codes 5% Reviews finished projects with client/customer. Diploma Qualifications: Required Completion of a registered apprenticeship program approved by the Department of Workforce Development as a Steamfitter as defined on DWD website - https://dwd.wisconsin.gov/apprenticeship/trades/steamfitter-construction.htm Preferred - Possess or be able to possess EPA Refrigerant Handling, Reclamation and Recovery Certification. - Advanced knowledge of pneumatic and electric control devices on building environmental systems. - Advanced knowledge of the design, operation and functions of building mechanical, electrical, plumbing and pneumatic systems and utilities, as they relate to building HVACR-related mechanical systems. - Thorough knowledge of HVACR maintenance practices and occupational safety associated with the operation, treatment and repairs of same. - High level of mechanical aptitude. - Experience with computerized database records systems. - Ability to operate power tools such as: saws, drill press, taps and dies, grinders, shears, and voltmeters. - Ability to read mechanical and electronic thermometers, fluid flow and volt-ohm meters, manometers and pressure gauges. - Basic understanding of electrical systems and service. - Basic understanding of plumbing systems. - Knowledge of maintenance and repair of appliances and equipment used for food preparation, custodial services and/or laundry services. - Organizational, scheduling and record keeping skills to develop, present, and direct training and work activities. - Good communication, team building skills, and experience working with people. - Ability to maintain professional and service oriented relationships with customers and co-workers. - Possess good communication and interpersonal skills and exercise a strong sense of priority and time management. License/Certification: Required Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards Work Schedule: Core hours are 7am to 3:30pm Monday through Friday with Evenings, Weekends and Holidays as required by events. May also occasionally require working in excess of normal work shift. Appointment Type, Duration: Ongoing/Renewable Salary: Minimum $51.65 HOURLY Depending on Qualifications This has been identified as a Crafts Worker/Trades position. Crafts Workers/Trades worker may elect an increased vacation allocation with a corresponding reeducation to the prevailing rate. 100 hours vacation $53.34; 140 hours vacation $52.50; 180 hours vacation $51.65.
