Description ACARA Solutions and our Defense client Advanced Embedded Software Engineer for our client in Middletown, RI. Work on naval programs, developing middleware improvements for embedded systems and taking a critical role in enhancing the capabilities of this architecture. Report to the Program Software Lead and be responsible for all phases of software engineering, including architecture design and review, requirements review and analysis, software design, development, and documentation. Assist integration and Test teams and support Engineering Leadership and the Chief Engineer in all related efforts. Technical leadership and software development. Design, develop, test, and deliver software artifacts supporting customer requirements. Leadership in and contributions to the next design of the embedded system services. Proactively drive the software engineering life cycle, from requirements gathering, analysis, and documentation to government support and maintenance. You will collaborate across the functional teams to resolve issues and recommend solutions to ensure that your software and the system meet requirements with the safety, security, and performance needed for deployment. You will engage with the customer community through reviews of progress, issues, feedback, and technology/capability roadmaps. Compiling and assessing user and customer feedback to improve software performance. Job Requirements Required Skills / Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Science or Engineering or Mathematics. Minimum of 5 years experience using C. Minimum of 5 years experience using Linux (shell scripting and command line expertise). Minimum of 5 years experience in embedded real-time systems. Minimum of 5 years experience using message-oriented middleware. Minimum of 5 years experience participating in technical architecture decisions for complex products. Minimum of 5 years experience developing, testing, and debugging real-time software. Minimum of 5 years experience with DevOps concepts such as: Implementing Version Control and standing-up branching strategies. Automating processes for build, test, and deploy. Applied experience with agile/lean principles in software development. Preferred Skills / Qualifications: Master's Degree. Experience working with other message-oriented Middleware products such as AMQP and Data Distribution Services (DDS). Experience in developing in satisfaction of customer-driven traditional waterfall development/integration milestones, applying best practices and techniques, Agile. Proficiency with utilizing essential lab equipment like Oscilloscopes, DMMs, Spectrum Analyzers, and other test equipment. Proficiency with different communication protocols like GPIB, RS232, and SPI. Significant expertise across the development life cycle and technical leadership proficiency, including architectural expertise. Good problem-solving and communication skills. Technical leadership and engineering expertise in diagnosing/debugging issues in existing code are necessary for real-time, high-certainty systems. Ability to communicate project vision, scope, and technical details with other technical team members Willing to work within the entire software engineering lifecycle. A quick learner and adaptable to new technologies Excellent oral and written communication skills Comfortable implementing ideas from scratch, owning major application features, and taking responsibility for their maintenance and improvement over time.
