POSITION OVERVIEW The Pharmacy Technician performs pharmacy-related functions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to inventory, prepare, mix, and deliver investigational medications for use in clinical trials. The Pharmacy Technician also performs administrative functions as required for clinical trials. All duties and responsibilities shall be performed in compliance with all current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), rules and regulations. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Prepare sterile compounded investigational medications for use in accordance with USP standards, including chapters 795 and 797 for patients participating in clinical trials. 2. Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proper operation and maintenance of compounding equipment (Class II Biological Safety Cabinet) 3. Cleans and maintain pharmacy shelves and work areas as required 4. Document and maintain the drug inventory through inventory control practices. 5. Order, receive, store, dispense, compound, dispose and maintain inventory of pharmacy supplies. 6. Ensure the security of all drug and pharmacy supplies. 7. Maintain an orderly, clean environment including cleanliness of pharmacy stock and supplies. 8. Enter data into the computer system, recording delivery, changes in inventory, expired drug, returned drug, and other items as needed. 9. Maintain the temperature monitoring system for ambient storage cabinets, refrigerators, and freezers. 10. Separate expired drug from stock and prepare it for return or destruction, 11. Perform general clerical duties. 12. Perform other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 1. Familiarity with pharmacy practice settings and proper drug handling and storage practices. 2. Highly organized with an eye for detail 3. Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and oral. 4. Strong prioritization skills and ability to make decisions independently and effectively. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations 5. Mathematics skills in adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 6. Effective computer and keyboarding skills. 7. Customer-service oriented. QUALIFICATIONS Education 1. Current Pharmacy Technician License in Florida required. 2. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) License strongly required. 3. Sterile Compounding Certificate preferred. 4. High school diploma or GED certificate required. Experience 1. Hospital experience in intravenous (IV) mixing with aseptic technique. 2. Minimum of one year compounding pharmacy experience (sterile compounding). PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 2. Prolonged periods of standing, bending and reaching. 3.
