BostonGene
Research Associate
BostonGene, Waltham, Massachusetts, United States
Position Overview BostonGene is seeking several highly-motivated Research Associates to join our imaging, and next generation sequencing (NGS) R&D teams in our Waltham, MA laboratory. These individuals will support BostonGene’s high-plex multiplex immunofluorescence (MxIF) or NGS platform. For imaging, the candidate will use the Akoya phenocycler fusion system, develop proficiencies with FFPE tissue and slide processing, H&E and IHC staining, antibody conjugation, antibody validation and optimization, and basic image analysis. For NGS, the candidate will be expected to develop proficiencies in different NGS protocols, including RNA and DNA isolation from tissue and plasma, DNA and RNA sequencing library preparation, nucleic acid and NGS library QC techniques, and utilize automated liquid handling systems. Key Responsibilities: (General) Execute experiments, analyze raw data, produce QC reports and experimental results within deadlines; often presented in lab meetings Execute experiments, analyze raw data, produce QC reports, and experimental results within project deadlines Participate in planning and designing new experiments Develop laboratory SOPs, calculate assay costs, and track laboratory reagents. Maintain accurate records in accordance with laboratory procedures, study protocols, and regulatory compliance. (Imaging) Prepare low- and high-plex antibody staining panels, perform QC with assistance from trained pathologists, and carry out experiments. Maintain and document antibody inventory, perform antibody conjugation, optimization, and validation. Manage patient sample inventory as well as the associated images Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, such as microscopes and scanners as well as coordinate preventive maintenance consultations (NGS) Operate automated liquid handling systems, including QIAcube for extraction, and Agilent Bravo for library preparation. Develop new and optimize existing NGS and molecular biology techniques. Perform nucleic acid extractions from tissues, cells, and plasma. Perform NGS library prep, final QC and operating Illumina sequencers. Qualifications: Bachelor’s (B.S.) degree in biology, clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or a related discipline. 0-2 years of experience in biomedical science. Familiarity with microscopy or pathology techniques (e.g., H&E, IHC). Experience with molecular biology techniques and protocols. Familiarity with electronic lab notebook (ELN), like Benchling. Willingness to learn new research techniques. Experience in preparing and implementing laboratory SOPs. Self-driven, team player with multitasking abilities.
