POSITION SUMMARY We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Safety Officer to join our team. The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing and enforcing all federal, state, local, and company safety standards to minimize injuries, accidents, and property damage on job sites. This position includes regular safety inspections, hazard assessments, and accident investigations to prevent and mitigate safety risks. The Safety Officer will ensure OSHA compliance, deliver safety training, and manage incident processes from report to corrective action. YOUR ROLE Conduct regular safety inspections on all job sites, ensuring OSHA compliance for personnel and project sites. Identify causes of accidents and hazards, developing preventive measures to reduce future incidents. Collaborate with Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen to determine necessary training based on contract and employee requirements. Recommend and implement safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with company safety guidelines. Oversee the Fleet Driving Program to promote safe driving practices. Organize and manage Workers’ Compensation claims, acting as the primary contact for claims adjusters and attending doctor visits as needed. Address safety violations or deficiencies promptly, ensuring corrective actions are taken. Compile inspection and safety reports for management, conducting additional safety coordination as requested. Inspect and maintain fire equipment monthly on job sites. Issue and manage safety equipment and first aid kits, and conduct weekly safety toolbox meetings and daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) with crews. Conduct monthly safety meetings with field personnel, covering topics such as trench excavation, confined space, PPE, and general construction safety. Provide safety orientation to new hires, reinforcing company safety practices. Escort inspectors and other visitors, including insurance agents and OSHA representatives, at job sites. Ensure completion of all safety-related administrative tasks, including incident documentation. Manage project start-up safety tasks, including posting safety signage and notices. Lead incident reporting, conduct root-cause analysis, facilitate debriefs, and implement corrective actions. Collaborate with management, consulting firms, and insurance brokers to develop, implement, and maintain safety policies that comply with federal, state, and local regulations. Assist HR with drug testing as required. Perform additional duties as assigned. WHAT YOU BRING Education : Bachelor’s degree in a Safety-related discipline preferred, or six years of related experience and training. Licenses/Certifications : Valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean driving record. Preferred certifications include First Aid, CPR, OSHA 510, OSHA 500, and OSHA Recordkeeping. Experience : Heavy civil construction, TXDOT / CoSA experience preferred. Skills : Bilingual (English/Spanish) or ability to facilitate translation. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Strong written and oral communication skills. Analytical and judgment skills for moderate-complexity issues. Ability to present safety information effectively to small groups. Strong prioritization, time management, and organizational abilities. Understanding of Title 29 CFR 1926 and the site review/inspection process. Knowledge of teaching and training techniques. Ability to build effective working relationships and foster teamwork.
